Thanks Phil but I think I'll stick with my version. I copied your syntax into the custom fact set and it came up with some strange results. I would have to change all the inputs to make the sentence make sense.

Scanning Birth etc. Certificates
I have Photoshop Elements 2.0 and it's great for joining two scans of an extra long certificate. More often than not the program will 'marry' the two halves up automatically and you shouldn't be able to see the join.

Marriage witnesses
I've now set this up as a family custom attribute. The template I'm using is {couple} had as {label} {date} {place}. I just fill in the names of the witnesses and the date. The date seems a bit superfluous however as the reports that you create then state the marriage date a second time. I don't bot...

Missing census source link
Nick, I think you're right - it's not the GC Editor that was at fault. It'll probably go down as one of those one-off computer problems that happens from time to time. Thanks for your help on this.

Missing census source link
I initially attached loads of census returns by using the Insert picture to Source routines in FH. That would have been the case with the problem one. Since then I have been using the Gedcom Editor link facility with no problems. I now of course attach the picture at the same time as I create the ce...

Missing census source link
Thanks Nick. No I haven't used the file with any other applications. Also I don't remember deleting the source at any point. However, I've just been looking at the 'last updates' column of my sources. A few weeks ago I decided to link census scans with each census source (as created via the Gedcom E...

Transferring query files between two PCs
Thanks Dave. I got down as far as All Users but couldn't find Application Data. It turned out I had to 'unhide' it to find the continuing folder path. That's why the search couldn't locate the file - it was hidden. When I retried the search to show hidden files and folders, there it was. Cheers, Mar...

Missing census source link
I had a strange problem today. I was looking at the Events tab for an individual and there were three census events listed. One of the census events didn't have the source linked to it - the others did. I did a sample check of other individuals' events and there was no problem with the links. As the...

Transferring query files between two PCs
I have FH set up on two computers: desktop and laptop. Depending on which PC I'm using to update FH files, I then transfer the data to the other PC using a memory stick. If I write a custom query, I can't see where that file is to transfer. I've looked in the Queries folder within the FH folder but ...

Change of occupation
...actually I was incorrect in my last message about them being the other way round. It did show me exactly what your query had demonstrated. Sometime in the past I must have spotted 'scholar' on an individual's main tab of the Property Dialog and I changed it to the correct 'adult' occupation. This...

Change of occupation
Jane, further to my last message, your query serendipitously found a couple of errors the other way round, e.g. one of my seven year olds was apparently 'Secretary to a Temperance Society' rather than a scholar!

Change of occupation
Thanks Jane, your query showed that I didn't have any geriatric school children! Earlier I had also looked at some of my first census sources and I couldn't find any 'would be scholars' without the scholar 'occupation' missing from their events screen, i.e. I probably dreamt that I had deleted some ...

Sources Query
Can one write a query to show the following?: I have a Named List, which I can import into the Query function. What I want is to list all the sources for each individual in that list, i.e. those attributes marked with an asterisk '*' in the 'Sources For:' section of the Property Dialog; e.g. Name ...

Change of occupation
Yes, the occupation is on the main tab ('front page') of the Property Dialog. I've just thought of a way to find if I may have 'corrupted' any Event occupations by deleting (as I think I may have done) any 'Scholar' occupations: to create two named lists - one for census record sources, another for ...

Change of occupation
Apologies if this one's been mentioned before. Whether this is anything to do with the GEDCOM Census Editor (GCE) I don't know. I noticed that several of my individuals have the occupation of 'Scholar'. This has obviously been picked up from the GCE entry. I tried changing one to 'Saddler', which I ...

Which records to a source?
I need to tidy up some of my sources. All my censuses have been entered using the Gedcom Census Editor (GCE) and consequently I have some misccellaneous pre-GCE census sources, e.g. 'U.K. Census 1881', which I'd like to clear out. My immediate reaction would be just to delete these superfluous sourc...

Completeness of 1861-91 Census
The problem with Ancestry.co.uk is the transcriber reading the enumerator's writing incorrectly. If they make the mistake with the surname, e.g. Milton or Hilton for Wilton, all the people at the house will be transcribed incorrectly. Of the six censuses from 1851 to 1901, I quite often find only ha...

Marriage witnesses
I'm sure I saw something about this either here or on the mailing list but how best does one record marriage witnesses in FH? I believe it was something like setting up a custom event for each couple and recording the names in there - and then cross-reference these to the relevant sources. Can anyon...

Transferring of photos problem
Thanks Mike, that would seem to do the job. One problem though: through messy jpeg file-keeping on my part, although the majority of my files are in one particular folder, there are several files in other sub-folders within the 'My Pictures' folder; therefore I need to locate them first. A couple of...

Perhaps I've missed it but although I enter the address in the Address field (i.e. number of house and street name) on the Gedcom Census utility, I can't see that information recorded on the source record on FH.
