Absolutely, great idea!
The undo feature in v4 should make it easier, I hope, to remove the citations I didn't intend making.

V3-V4 Upgrade
Any idea how we download the upgrade from v3->v4 file again without going through the purchase pages? The above link sends you to the Kagi/Calico Pie purchase page.

I agree - Tinker, the 'K' is the same as in 'Cook'.

Old Occupation: ';Operations Chemist';
Wild guess...
Its not 'Operations' as in 'Surgery' is it? Anaesthetist or their assistant, one who makes the chemicals neccessary for an operation?

More like 1921 than 1911 - definitely not the latter.

Warning! Downloads: Extended Web Search facility
A new download has appeared - Extended Web Search facility - which is identical to the existing standard.fhi file for FH v3 and provides nothing extra. However, if you have FH v3.1 and you follow the instructions you will delete the new v3.1 standard.fhi file which is an improvement over the old one...

Microfiche to digital format
TIFF is going to give you the highest quality image, might be important if you need to zoom in a lot or process/enhance the image to get at the detail. TIFF files are larger than JPG though.
Don't use PDF, you won't be able to play with the image in a graphics program to enhance it etc.

PC freezing when using FH3 report
The first time I tried to produce a narrative report it appeared that FH crashed. It was using huge amounts of memory and CPU time. I discovered that it was including each and every census image I had together with other source documents. As soon as I configured it not to print off source documents ...

I too am running Windows 2000 and it tells me some system files are out of date. I'm sorry but there is no way I'm letting it update system files for me. This is a grave security risk. I've never had a program ask me before to do this. Besides many of them will probably be replaced back by the syste...

Searching the BMD's in Ancestry.co.uk
When I'm searching the BMD images this often happens. What I've done with mostly success (sometimes the images just aren't present) is to search for a surname close to the one I want for that quarter and when the image displays use the 'Next' or 'Previous' image buttons to go to my 'missing' image. ...

Help working out a name on the 1851 census
I would say that was Alexander Officer. Using superscripts was very common in the earlier censuses. However, remember that what you are looking at are the transcriptions from the census form originally completed by the family who may not have been able to write and the transcriber has to interpret t...

Same person , but two census entries!
I've just found someone in 3 census records for 1881. Try as I might I can't dismiss them, there are so many cross references and as you know it's like a house of cards - start dismissing one and the others fall across the years. It appears she lived with her husband (as you do [grin]) and also help...

Remember current record when ged updated
Currently, when the gedcom file being worked on is updated externally (say by GEDCOM Census) the record being worked on is unselected. The Properties dialog is blanked and the 'go back/forward' buttons greyed. This can make the integration of FH and GEDCOM Census awkward. The current selected record...

Hi Simon I wrote that a while back only having used FH3 for a short while. I was using GEDCOM Census to enter my census records and create new source entries. This 'problem' came about because, GEDCOM Census creates a new .ged file, of course. When FH3 reloads it the Properties dialog is emptied and...

Are you creating Census Source records? Here you record the census details and then link that to the various people concerned. This is best done with Nick Walker's most excellent program Gedcom Census found in the Downloads section here. It will do most of the hard work of linking the source record ...

There are quite a few programming challenges usings Amodal boxes Agreed, but it can be done. I've always strived in the past to program in this manner. An old chestnut, dialogs in Windows that once opened stop you using other opened dialogs. Considering that dialogs are just little windows, it shouldn't be a problem, but it is. Here's my problem. I've started to keep notes of stuff I've found on the web etc in, well, the Notes tab. Later on I might...

Yes, every other family is a Ross
They are all common surnames as you would expect. There are a couple of Ross and Mitchell families in our village.

Conditional Entries On Diagrams
Have a look at 'Understanding Functions' in the online help. I've been playing with the NotExistsText function to display the Census address if no residence address is present. From what I can see it is normally used for conditional text but it works with expressions as well. So something like this...
