Re: 1939 Register Query "NR230 DEP"

To me the top image reads NR235. Maybe there was a mistake made when the note was copied - which would have come first?

Re: 1939 Register - updating entries

It might be too late in this instance, but when I am adding new entries for the 1939 census I edit the "Text from source" section to include the redacted entries in a household. They read as e.g. "Subject no. 3 redacted". I don't have an individual for these entries but seemed a useful way of recog...

1939 Register - updating entries

I have discovered that Find My Past have recently opened the 1939 Register records for several of my relatives who were not included when I entered the original information into FH using AS. Is there an easy way to use AS to update records to include extra people and update the attached image on an ...

Re: Brother and sister marriage?

Is it possible that one of them was the child of an unmarried older sister but was being brought up as the child of his/her grandparents to avoid scandal?

I am still not sure of that would make the marriage legal as they would be niece and uncle or nephew and aunt.

Back up & restore problem

My computer has just been upgraded to Windows 10. I made a backup and now that I am trying to restore it I get the message "Minor Version Mismatch ERROR: Family Historian Version 6.2.1.0 installed does not match Version 6.2.0.2 Backup Data. Install a free update so the program version matches the ba...

Re: Lookup Missing Census Facts plug in - sorting

Mike,

Thank you for solving this puzzle.

I am sorry that I did not respond to your request for a screen shot but, unfortunately real family life as opposed to family history got in the way of things for a while.

I am off to download the new plug in.

Thanks again.

Re: Lookup Missing Census Facts plug in - sorting

Are you saying that neither the ancestry.co.uk nor the findmypast.co.uk columns will sort? Which browser are you using? Check Help > About *** to show the exact version. Do all the columns have underlined headings with small white up/down triangles? When you click a heading to sort, does one of tho...

Re: Lookup Missing Census Facts plug in - sorting

Thanks for the reply, tatewise.

As far as I am aware nothing has changed on my computer or my browser.

The other columns still sort - just not the one I want. As I said, it's not a major problem, just a bit of an irritation and a puzzle.

Lookup Missing Census Facts plug in - sorting

I have been using the Lookup Missing Census Facts plugin to help with 1939 Register searches and have found it very useful. Until yesterday had been able to sort the list by clicking the heading 'findmypast.co.uk' which then put all the entries for different censuses together. However, this facility...

Re: Problems getting information from relatives!

Please persevere in some way in getting this information - while you can!! You are fortunate in still having family members who can supply names, background stories etc. Unfortunately, by the time I got down seriously to study my family's history (when I retired) there weren't many of the older gene...

Duplicate Property Box tab

I have recently downloaded the Military Property Box tab but somehow seem to have two copies of it on the Property Box. Before I start inputting any information can anyone tell me how to delete one copy (or both and then I can start again)?

Re: Census - adding new individuals (2nd question)

Maggie, So if I understand correctly you are adding an unnamed child of the grandparents, plus the grandchild into FH (while in the middle of the AS data entry, or before you start it?) then selecting the grandchild from the list of individuals in AS to add them to the census? Doesn't this mean tha...

Re: Census - adding new individuals (2nd question)

With grandchildren I just add another (unnamed) child to the grandparents and add the grandchildren to him/her until I find out who they really belong to. I tend to choose the sex of the new child depending on the surname of the grandchild/ren. As soon as I have completed adding that census entry to...

Re: Error message when adding images to exisiting sources

Thanks, tatewise.

I thought I had done all that. Next time I find a census where I can't add the image I will look more closely at the Census facts and make sure they are the same, and report back if I have a problem.

Why would they not all be the same if I have added them using AS?

Error message when adding images to exisiting sources

Sometimes when I try to add an image to an existing census source I get the error message: "You can't choose images as there are census facts which do not have matching dates and/or places and/or addresses" All my census entries have been made using Ancestral Sources Recording Method 1. I can't find...

Breadth of research

I recently discovered that a distant blood relative had married three times. I suspected that the three wives were sisters so I had to investigate their families to try to prove it. That added quite a few more people to the database. Sometimes someone who is not a blood relative 'takes my fancy' - o...

All working OK now.

Mike,

I have tried following your instructions but when I get to line 361 the text you said to replace is not there, and I can't find it anywhere else.

It's the first time I have tried to do anything like this - am I missing something obvious?
