Auto Text Place amp; Address
Thanks for that - it is really useful. When I first started all this some years ago I had undervalued what I took to be peripheral info like ecclesiastical parish etc. However, with the increase in the number of parish and other local records being searchable on-line I realise this was a mistake....

Auto Text Place amp; Address
Sorry about that lack of clarity Nick. I hadn't noticed before that the place and address details are not automatically added along with the other data (name; date etc) into the Text From Source in AS and FH when Auto Text is selected. I know, for example, that for Census AS adds the info (census an...

It is the same with the place. The index shows where the birth is registered NOT where the person was born.

Thanks for the replies I had used the Windows Easy Transfer utility for the transfer and had assumed that as the settings were coming from Ver 5 to Ver 5 that they would all transfer creating essentially a complete copy. I had already started reselecting the Icons for the flags on a one-by-one basis...

Flags amp; Icons
Have bought new computer and reinstalled Ver5 on the new one (V5was on the old computer). I have imported the files (gedcom etc) and all my flags are listed in the Edit>Record Flag menu. However none of them are displayed in the diagram nor in the diagram>boxes menu. Where have they gone? Why did th...

Reinstall on New Computer
Slight hiccup when following the instructions on the wiki at http://www.fhug.org.uk/wiki/doku.php?id=how_to:reinstall_family_historian. Those instructions were fine before the update to Ver 5 was published. There is now no direct access from the FH (CP) website to the original Ver4 to Ver5 upgrade. ...

Reinstall on New Computer
I have bought a new computer and wish to reinstall FH5 on that computer.
My first version of FH was Ver 3 and I upgraded to 4 then upgraded to Ver 5.
Do I have to go back to Ver 3 and install that plus the two upgrades?

Grand or Great Uncle (aunt)
I don't know if we have had this debate before or not but I could not find it via the search. Is there a definitive ruling in genealogy on how to define the brother/sister of a grandparent? One would expect a GRANDparent's brother to be a GRAND Uncle but we seem to use GREAT Uncle but I have also se...

RECORDING CENSUS RETURNS
I did the search as you suggested and found it interesting. Of course, if (like me)one has never heard of Custodian one would not put that name into the search engine so your suggestion to have a dedicated location for pointers to potentially useful software may be a good one. I know that when I loo...

Sunny Lady: That was a useful pointer to a piece of software I had not heard of but it may be too daunting a task for me to now try to input all my data! As this could be of interest to others, can I suggest that you also put this info in the General Section under: Topic: What other software do you ...

Thank you all for your input. I had not want to change to 64bit processing if it was to adversely impact on my use of FH and AS.

I note from the HELP section of the software that AS was tested with Win7 but it does not specifically say that it was tested with the 64 bit as well as the 32 bit.

Ver 5 Probs Photo Loading
I have sent my back-up to Calico so they can have a look at what has gone wrong. However, I still find that FOR ME the change to 'load in the background' for the photos in the Diag View makes the window slower to load that Ver 4 (which clearly should NOT be the case) and the window - although visibl...

Ver 5 Probs Photo Loading
I'll see if I can track it down. I may have some back-ups in Ver 4 format which I can try to compare. I suppose there is always the remote possibility that a link which was working in Ver 4 may have become corrupted during the upgrade to Ver 5. I can't see it being the type of problem which would ar...

I think I have made some progress. I had previously tried deleting the Frame and relinking but had done that only with some of the more recent pics in respect of which I had used that feature. It did not make any difference - they still would not load. However, I just tried going back to the earlies...

I have not changed any of the settings from Ver 4 and I was perfectly happy wit...

All on the computer's hard drive. The folder/file locations are all exactly the same as they were when I was using Ver 4 (and indeed Ver 3) and there was never any problem with the previous versions. No - they load quickly and with none missing. I have looked in the SAMPLE DATA folder and there are only 10 photos and they are all in the folder MEDIA. I use the same system as the SAMPLE but because I have significantly more media items then 10 I subdivide the MEDIA folder into two folders (one fo...
