Ver 5 Probs Photo Loading
I have looked into this overnight and this morning. It seems confined to those pics which are LINKED TO FACE. All the other pics load almost immediately but those with a LINK TO FACE do not. However - as explained above - as soon as I click OK in the Edit Media Item then ALL the LINKS TO FACE associ...

Ver 5 Probs Photo Loading
I have run a few tests on this and I don't like this at all. It is taking far too long to load pics when I did not have to wait that long in Ver 4. For example, after being in the Diag window for over ten minutes the bottom line still shows 'LOADING..' and some pics have not appeared. I have not got...

I never thought Ver 4 was slow in Diag mode even with the biggest of my trees but maybe others had probs which I did not have.
I will just have to see how it goes.

Ver 5 Probs Photo Loading
Thanks for that. I am using the same computer as I did with Ver 4 which loaded just fine.
The FH website says that one of the advantages of FH5 is:
Faster Diagram Loading
Pictures are now loaded in the background making diagrams much faster to load.

Have upgraded Ver 4 to Ver 5 but not all photos are being auto-displayed in the right-hand side of the box in the Diag view. I find that I can get them to display if I: 1. select the person's box in the diag view 2. select multimedia 3. double-click the photo to enter Edit Media Item 4. and then cli...

I must first of all say to Nick that I have used both versions of your programme since I first discovered it. When I did first discover it I posted that I only wished I had found it sooner!! It has now developed into a very sophisticated tool and having previously contributed (modestly!) to the c...

Census or Residence fact
I am afraid that Mike is assuming that I record the info under residence as a fact when I do not know it is a fact. When I record ANY information which is not 100% certain I make that clear in the entry I make. FH and AS allow for Notes and an Assessment of the source and any doubts about the perman...

Census or Residence fact
I have just seen that Nick has previously said that 'If you created a census and residence fact this would be an unnecessary repetition.' However in that same comment Nick explained the difference - the Census does not imply 'residence' just 'presence' on that occasion. However, this difference show...

Census or Residence fact
I know there is an option of Census information recorded in Census or Residence fact and I use the default of Census.
However once AS has updated FH I also then manually cut and past the address/place as a resident fact. Is there a way to get AS to do this automatically?

What other software do you use for Family History?
I have also used INSPIRATION from http://www.inspiration.com/inspiration_intl It is easy to use as it is designed for use at school and colleges but is useful for whatever. It provides a very easy way of planning what you want to do and displays in both a digram and report format I am also prepar...

What other software do you use for Family History?
I have been using CHECKLIST for various bits & pieces. http://www.tasksolutions.com/products.html
I can't complain about the software just my 'commitment' when it comes to using it!

It was a 'YES' to all including the re-installation which went ahead without triggering an error message.
Thanks again for your help.
Looking forward to exploring this new software and seeing how it develops.

Flag and Icon
I have renamed a Flag using Jane's method at http://www.fhug.org.uk/cgi-bin/index.cgi?action=forum&board=Usage&op=display&num=3642 The old flag no longer appears in the Record Flag options under EDIT and the new one does. So good so far I wanted to associate an Icon with the new flag and when I went...

Private Notes - a question and a cautionary tale
I agree that there should be a straightforward and consistent way of ensuring privacy in respect of some entries the compiler does not wish to be seen. This should be clearly and fully explained in the help function and the 'manual'. Maybe someone should add this to the wish list.

I have got one whose parents were unmarried but were (and still are) living together who was registered twice at birth. One with his father's surname and one with his mother's! Great for passports etc later!

Birth re-registration
I hadn't realised until recently that parents who had children before they were married could re-register the child's birth AFTER they married. This explains why I have recently found two entries in the BMD Index with different dates for the same person. The Directgov site http://www.direct.gov.uk/en...
