Re: Sorting sources under Windows 8
I am using Windows 7 so cannot confirm what happens in Windows 8. However I believe that in Windows 7 what matters is the sort order in the Sources tab of the Records Window. Changing the sort order in the 'Select Source' box is only temporary, and the order reverts to the order in the Records Windo...

Re: Women's occupations
There is a Plugin called 'Occupations per Census Year', written by Mike Tate, which produces a result set showing totals of each occupation as well as a breakdown by cesus year and 'other' (for those occupations not linked to a census year). I imagine it would be possible to add two further columns ...

Re: Transcription of a Will
If you don't want the transcription of the will to be relegated to the sources section of a report, an alternative to entering it all in a note is to use the 'Free Text' item when creating a book/booklet. This allows you to insert a chunk of text between other items in the book. It may not be possib...

Ah, I've just refreshed the browser (CTL-F5) and the bold has come back again. Don't know why it came and went before.

Re: Hello Everyone
Now better after making them all bold , but some (such as EDIT, QUOTE, ?, etc) could be a little larger. Also the yellow background to the buttons is better. I caught a fleeting glimpse of the bold orange/brown text (including, I think, Users names) but it seems to have reverted to non-bold again. ...

This was raised a while ago:

As you say, it's a small point but Nick is aware of it.

Re: Close Focus window?
Anne,
You can use Tools > Preferences > Startup tab and tick the second option, 'Display the Records Window instead of the Focus Window at startup'.
You should then find the Focus window only appears if you deliberately open it.

Re: User Ranks - Legends and all
Thanks for the explanation Jane.
With some of the V5 forum posts having been 'left behind' and the beta forums not being carried over, the number of posts actually recorded is a bit arbitrary, but I'm happy to be a Diamond.
May I suggest that Admin should be re-designated as 'God'?

I am seeing exactly the same. Still showing as unread, and can't see the reply from Tatewise. As this is an old post I am guessing maybe it has just been moved from elsewhere or something has just been deleted.

Re: Old Front Page
Jane,
The News list now added to the Home page includes two items called 'Custom Tree Splitter', which I don't think should be there. They look like old forum posts. Don't know how they crept in!
Keep up the good work, we do appreciate it.

'buried affidavit made'?
Further to Jane's reply, see also this article for more about being 'buried in wool': http://www.historyhouse.co.uk/articles/buried_in_wool.html The 'afft made' recorded after each burial probably relates to this. Sometimes the entries are very much more detailed, for example in the parish of Braile...

Mike, I don't think Ron is talking about transferring anything to a new PC: just installing V5 on his existing PC, with an icon on the desktop. tatewise said: In your example, you know that James must have Died after his daughter's Birth, so use After Dec 1850. Sort Date
In v5 each standard fact is associated with a 'time frame', so you should find that a death event without a date is always listed after all life events (but before burial/cremation and probate) without the need for a dummy 'sort date'. If you want to have just one occupation for an individual you ca...

How do I enter a variation of date style?
Hi Andrea, When it says that dates can be entered in a variety of styles, what it means is that the progam will interpret a variety of ways of entering a date as being the same date. For example: 11th june 2013, 11 jun 2013, 11June 2013, Jun 11 2013, 11/06/2013 (if you use UK settings), 06.12.2013 (...

If a Sources section were composed as different Reports for multiple Records were added, then this would result in many Sources sections, and cross-references would be ambiguous. I understand your explanation Mike. Within a book, the sources need to be either after each Record or at the end of the...
