Re: Query filter concatenation
Why does the addif get new records where the exclude only works on the previous statements exclude? What else could they do? Each filter either adds (new records) to the existing results set or excludes some records which are already there. The special case is the very first filter, where if the fi...

Re: Delete some gedcom files Listed in Gedcom File Tasks
In answer to the question about removing individuals from a Named List, simply select them in the list and hit the delete button on the keyboard. You will be asked to confirm that you want to remove them from the list. (The records themselves will not be deleted!)

Re: Robert Brent M.D. (1819-1872)
The couple were both shown as single and of full age in both marriages. But was that true? Have you verified that they really were both single and of full age? You apparently have a birth date for Robert but what about the bride? Perhaps she was under 21 at the time of the first marriage and didn't...

Re: Testing Ancestral Sources v7.6.7 (January 2023)
Oh dear. This wasn't a straightforward change to implement and I think in my testing I very much focussed on making sure it chose the correct month, assuming the year calculation would just work! :D. This will be fixed in the next version! Not to worry Nick, thanks for your work on this. You are ah...

Re: Testing Ancestral Sources v7.6.7 (January 2023)
Nick, the predited birth date calculation is a year out when 0 months is entered. Example: in the Sample Project select George Dowling , ID [60]. Create a 1921 census entry for him in AS, entering his age as 30y 0m. His birth date should be calculated as June 1891. In fact AS calculates it as June 1...

If moving only one child I find it quickest to use the All tab of the child’s Property box. The Parents family field is shown there. Right-click on the names of the ‘wrong’ parents then choose Replace Link With… then either Link to New Family Record or Link to Existing Family Record, as required. Ho...

Re: Naming and organising digital copies of old photos
I have sub folders within the media folder for the main branches (‘Photos Smith Ancestors', ‘Photos Roberts Ancestors’, etc) plus another sub folder for ‘Photos Joint family’ which holds more recent photos of people or groups from after the point at which the main branches merge. Within each sub fol...

Re: Removing a repeated imported phrase
Mike,
Iriwyl said “I don't need any of the dates because it just repeats the date stated in the fact itself.” So I think perhaps the text is in the note field, it's not a date phrase in the date field. So searching date fields only may not be appropriate.

Re: Diagram Counts
Are you hoping for an automatic way to make those various counts? The number of individuals in the diagram can be found from Diagram > Diagram Statistics. You could use a set of queries for the other numbers but they would be independent of the diagram (unless you have selectively hidden some boxes ...

Re: Too many Occupation facts
The occupation facts cannot be hidden in the Facts tab of the Property box, if that is what you are referring to. All recorded facts for the individual are listed in that tab. The optional ones are basic facts which belong to close family members. Those can be hidden/displayed by clicking the calend...

You can also simply start by selecting the two people in the Individuals tab of the Records Window before using Tools>How Related. They will then both be preselected in the How Related window.

Re: Allow citation fields in bibliography on sources
The FH documentation states the rules about which fields can appear in which formats but gives no explanation along the lines Lorna and Helen have put forward, so users are left in the dark as to why the rules exist. Well I don't think any explanation is needed because as I said in my last post "Pe...

Re: Allow citation fields in bibliography on sources
So any level of granularity can be chosen for the Bibliography Format and may be virtually identical to the Footnote Format if the user wishes. Yes, but as I said that rather defeats the purpose of introducing bibliographies in V7, which were (presumably) intended to be significantly different from...

Re: Allow citation fields in bibliography on sources
Should this topic be moved to the General forum? I suspect that the OP can achieve what he wants by choosing a suitable ‘level of lumping’, e.g. for 1920 US Census use a separate ‘lumped’ source for each state and county so that ‘1920 US Census Florida, Lee County’ is a source in its own right, as s...

Re: Allow citation fields in biography on sources
I notice that you have referred in the topic title and in your posts to a ‘ biography ’. In case there is any misunderstanding, the section which (optionally) can be generated at the end of a report is a bibliography . In most academic works a bibliography is a list of sources (typically books, or a...

Re: Rich Text font detection
Thanks for this Mark. It has revealed 15 cases of 'font contamination' in my project. Several of these were undetectable by eye because the main body of the text was in the correct default font. It turned out that there was a blank line immediately afterwards which was Segoe UI (usually) or Cambria ...

Age in years and months
When AS offers to create a birth date, or change an existing birth date, it bases its calculation on the individual’s age in years, or in years and months in the case of the 1921 census. This works well when the number of months is anything from 1 to 11. However if the number of months is 0 the calc...

Re: Plain Text Only setting
If CP can’t find the cause of these problems then a ‘plain text only’ option would be desirable. However if these changes are beyond the user’s control presumably they could also be a problem for those who want to use Rich Text, so it would be much better if CP could get to the root of the problem. ...

Re: Using XML vs Gedcom to store data
I have to say that I'm worried about what a Citation is - i.e. how to identify it and therefore how to detect the "duplicates". At present FH only regards two citations as identical if absolutely all the fields in the citation are identical. For example in Report Options >Sources there is an option...

Re: Testing Ancestral Sources v7.6.5
I think you are referring to the example on the NRS (National Records of Scotland) site, because FindmyPast doesn't have the Scottish 1921 census. The NRS site does indeed have an example featuring several of the 'wrong' kind of entries in that column. In fact it's odd that they chose that particula...

Nick, I noticed that in the Scottish 1921 census template the Employment column has a drop-down menu which consists of the same options as the Status column (but spelled out in words) plus an option for "Private". I think this is probably a hang-over from the template for the English census where mo...
