Re: Stepchldren in charts
It is certainly true that if you hide a parent box then all of their children get hidden too. Actually that's not quite true. When you hide the box for a second partner their children also get hidden, although when you hide the box for a first partner their children are not hidden. This was discuss...

Re: Unusual box outline in diagram
Just to add to what Lorna has said, even if you 'Never show proxy boxes' the dotted line between where the Proxy Box would have been and the normal box next to the spouse will still exist, i.e. the normal box does NOT move up between the siblings. But, as I mentioned in the second paragraph of my r...

Re: Short Titles in AS 7.7
Your assumption is correct. Once AS has had added data to your project you can do whatever editing you like in FH. (I sometimes do!)My assumption is that any change to AS would not affect my ability to add/edit Short Titles in FH7

Re: Unusual box outline in diagram
The dotted line boxes are called Proxy boxes. They only appear in All Relatives diagrams and are used to show where an ancestor fits in the context of his or her own parents' family. They can be helpful in large diagrams where the ancestor's main box (next to their spouse) is a long way from the poi...

You will also find a lot of information in the FHUG Knowledge Base. Start with this page, for example Citing Sources: Method 1 and Method 2 where there are some worked examples of using method 1 'splitter' sources and method 2 'lumper' sources.

Re: Data Reference for YEAR
You said you want to list individuals who have a death date before a given year. Is that what you meant? Your filter Exclude if %INDI.DEAT.DATE:YEAR% is less than ..... will exclude those people, not include them. You would need to Add if %INDI.DEAT.DATE:YEAR% is less than... or Exclude unless %INDI...

Re: New text clipping option
I mentioned in one of my earliers posts in this thread that although they said that v7.0.19 has fixed an earlier bug where text could sometimes get chopped off at the bottom of a box, I had never had that problem before but I do sometimes see it now. So the 'fix' seems to have generated the problem ...

I logged the lack of 'Help' with CP and they have now replied: Thank you for pointing that out. We will update the Help in the next release. It will read as follows: Text Margins Specify the margins round the text, separating it from the edges of the box in which the text appears. Tab Width If the t...

Re: England & Wales Probate Calendar images
Some are even negative images. .... Does anybody know where the Probate Registry / FMP images come from? No, but I too have been puzzled that some of them are negative images. It gives the impression the collection has been compiled from a variety of sources. On the Probate Registry website https:/...

Re: Book Building - How to add an image to a "Free Text" item
Have you tried using a Text Box in the chart, as described in the paragraph in the Knowledge Base page? Admittedly if you want to add as much as two or three paragraphs of text with the image it might be difficult to fit it all in the same chart as the image.

Re: Book Building - How to add an image to a "Free Text" item
You can't do it with a text page, but you can add pictures to a book as a Chart. Start by adding the image to a blank diagram and save it as a Family Historian Chart. Then in the Edit Book dialogue select Saved Chart and click > to choose the chart. It sounds a bit tedious but when you’ve learned ho...

Re: New text clipping option
Sarah, you might be right. But if they have fixed the bug, why does the user need to do anything? And how?
If the new options are part of the bug fix I think CP need to explain what they do. A brief update to the Help files is needed.

New text clipping option
The list of new features in v 7.0.19 includes the following: There is a new text clipping option with diagrams. Defaults to clipping at box level. Is accessed by clicking “Margins & Tabs” on the Text tab of diagram options. Does anyone know what this does? The Help info for Margins and Tabs has not ...

Re: Source Record Title confusion
To bring this back to BEJ's needs, it would be useful to know why they felt they had to introduce Short Title for Templated Sources. Then we can suggest what could be changed (if anything)/how much work would be involved. I think it's because BEJ started using Short Titles with generic sources but ...

Re: Source Record Title confusion
So yes, a templated source can have a Short Title just as a generic source can, but I'm suggesting that for many people, that's impractical and therefore "irrelevant" to the discussion. It may be impractical and (for some people) unnecessary but this whole discussion started because BEJ has added S...

Re: Source Record Title confusion
Perhaps strangely I thought you and I regarded the two titles in the same manner. The Short Title is an abbreviated, potentially reordered version of the main Title, used to navigate the lists. Yes, we do agree on that. I just don’t think of the abbreviated version of the Title as being the ‘name’ ...

Re: Source Record Title confusion
Well I have never found it confusing in the past, but I am confused by Adrian’s/Mike’s summary! I have never thought of the (generic) Short Title as “the name given to the source record in FH”. I have always thought of the full Title as the name of the record and the Short title as simply as an abbr...

Re: Testing Ancestral Sources v7.6.12 (February 2023)
Like Teresa, I now sometimes see a blank where the tree should appear. It happens after using the tree when recording data from one census and then switching to a different census year but selecting the same person as the tree root. If a different person is selected the tree displays correctly.
