Re: Add Historical details to narrative report

There is also the Free Text item in the Edit Book Dialog, which can be used to insert additional information. This would be more suitable if you want to add a whole paragraph before or after someone's narrative, rather than snippets interspersed with other sentences.

Re: Ancestor/Descendent diagram: marriage info

Ah, I must have changed the text scheme for the position of the ancestors' marriage info at some time in the very distant past. I have no recollection of doing so! If Anthony wants to change that we can tell him how, but I wouldn't recommend changing the default for the descendants' info because it ...

Re: Ancestor/Descendent diagram: marriage info

As far as I am aware, in the Ancestor part of the diagram the marriage info is always with the husband, not with the wife. However in the Descendants part of the diagram the marriage info is with the spouse of each descendant. So for a male descendant the marriage info will be with his wife, and for...

Re: Griffiths Valuation

I create a source for the page from the valuation and attach the image to the source. Then create a residence fact for the individual, citing the source. The fact note contains any further information, such as the type of property (e.g. 'house, office and land', 'house and garden') and the names of ...

Re: Lost some functions when upgrading from Windows 7 to 10

Hi Tony, The bit that says "(requires project)" provides the clue. You are opening the gedcom file as a stand-alone gedcom, perhaps by clicking on the gedcom file itself, rather than opening the whole project. As you have used the hints successfully in the past you must have a full project structure...

Re: Lost some functions when upgrading from Windows 7 to 10

Do you mean you are not seeing the green 'hints' circles in the Focus window? Or that nothing happens when you click on one of them? Your FH settings should not have been affected if you simply upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10 on the same computer. However, in Family Historian check Tools > Pre...

Re: 1939 Missing Entries Query

Regarding David's first question, Anyone any idea how reliable and complete this indexing of later surnames is? I have found the indexing to be accurate whenever a later surname has been added, i.e. the person can be found under either surname (subject to legibility). But the addition of later surna...

When you view the report on screen in FH can you see the sources list? If so it should be printed with all the other pages. Bear in mind also that in your example of "survived by" - for non-living parents with some or all living children you may be omitting some important information from the report if you do not list the children who had pre-deceased the parents. Some of them might have reached adulthood and had familie...

Yes, just repeat the steps you took last April, but this time with the new PC/laptop. As long as you are able to install version 6 (even if it's an early version 6) you can then go to this page https://www.family-historian.co.uk/downloads to download the latest free upgrade to version 6.2.7 You will...

I assume you mean you have previously purchased FH on a CD (rather than as a download). This is the advice in the Knowledge Base: If you only have an Installation CD, but your new PC is a Netbook/Laptop with no CD drive, then on any PC with a CD/DVD drive, copy the entire contents of the Installatio...

Re: Note field Citations disallowed in 5.5.1

If FH wanted to be 5.5.1 compliant it would have to disable the Source pane with respect to every Note field.... But it's only the record level note fields which have the Source pane available. And the presence of the Source pane encourages the user to add a source. For fact notes the Source pane a...

Re: Note field Citations disallowed in 5.5.1

I don't suppose many people have souce citations on fact level note fields, as there wouldn't be much point. The Source can be cited against the fact rather than the fact note. But record level notes are another matter! If FH wanted to be compatible with 5.5.1 it would have to disable the Source pan...

Re: Only Child

(Edit: Adrian's reply arrived while I was writing this. Here's mine anyway, making some of the same points.) The UK 1911 Census incudes child counts that can be reflected in the Child Count attribute to indicate that as yet undiscovered children still need to be found, possibly because they were bor...

Re: Section of family tree gone missing

Since Source records are only a fragment of the GEDCOM file, it is difficult to understand how they can all get deleted without affecting anything else in that file. There was a problem identified, and fixed, many years ago in Ancestral Sources which could cause some Source records to disappear. Su...

Yes, click the Options button to the right of the report. On the Contents tab under Main Section Items (in order) scroll down to Parents (first set) which by default will be set to Show Even if Empty. Select this line then click the Edit button just above it and set it to Show if not empty .
