Re: suppress select witness facts in property box
You could report the problem to CP, especially as you are using their recommended method of citing parent relationships. Actually CP recommend using the standard birth event with the parents as witnesses, whereas DJY is using a cutom fact to record the parents as witnesses. This is presumably in ad...

Re: Duplicate individuals in a chart
The married cousins themselves will still appear twice but their descendants shouldn't, if you have chosen the first option. It has always worked when I've tried it. However if the descendants really are duplicated you can still hide one of the sets of descendants by clicking on the expansion button...

Re: Map Window - List Pane : meaning of the coloured check boxes
I've just been experimenting to see what the native Geocoder defines as a partial match. Prompted by your post I have now experimented too. I changed my Preferences to Mark Auto-geocodes as Tentative if Partial/uncertain matches . Then I created four test places: Nowhere Street, Evanston, Cook Coun...

Re: Map Window - List Pane : meaning of the coloured check boxes
It's tentative if there's only a partial match with the place name. More from the Help file: tentative.JPG However, as suggested, I specify in Preferences that all automatic geocodes are initially flagged as tentative. After I've checked them I make them non-tentative. I also use Preferences to Bloc...

Re: Renumber Record IDs as part of "RE-DO"
It depends how many people you have in your project. If it's a small compact group you might be able to navigate fairly quickly from the file root to another specific person, but if you had a few thousand people (and some users have tens of thousands!) you would probably work a different way. One op...

Re: Renumber Record IDs as part of "RE-DO"
Guess you'll need to keep switching the designated "root" to accomplish what you want to do. I don't suppose KFN ever needs to switch the designated file root. He probably doesn't use it for anything. When you produce a report you specify who the report is about (e.g. ancestors of ...), and when yo...

Re: Replacing Pre-Existing Facts as part of RE-DO using AS
Yes, it did when I experimented. "...AS can see the fact and offers to replace it (without the flag)". I think Gary's question was whether the flag would somehow prevent AS seeing that the fact was there. He wants AS to replace the fact, not end up with both the old (flagged) fact and the new (AS-cr...

Re: Replacing Pre-Existing Facts as part of RE-DO using AS
So; you know when the setup of AS could affect the behaviour. I can't think why any settings within AS would affect its ability to detect an existing fact in FH. And if AS took any notice of fact flags in FH I'm sure it would say so in the AS Help files. However if you want a definitive answer you'...

Re: Replacing Pre-Existing Facts as part of RE-DO using AS
Why not just experiment to find out?
I've just experimented by adding a Tentative flag to a fact in the FH Sample Project. AS can see the fact and offers to replace it (without the flag).

... the root person would be #1. This should ensure that the actual root person comes up in the root position by default. I'm not sure what you mean by the 'root position'. Do you mean the Focus Window? In FH you can change the file root at any time. This is independent of the record ID. If you lea...

In Diagram Options > Text tab select the text scheme in use and click Edit Text Scheme. (If you are using one of the standard text schemes it's a good idea to Clone it first, and edit the clone, so that you can get back to the original scheme easily if you want to.) In the Edit Text Scheme dialog se...

Re: Duplicate individuals in a chart
In Diagram Options > General tab , next to the Check for Duplicates box there is an Options.. button. The first option allows the hiding of duplicate branches, but you can't hide the duplicated 'root' people. You can of course hide the linking 'ribbons' by unticking the Check for Duplicates box, but...

Re: Citations and media
Hello, welcome to FHUG. The media tab for the individual is normally reserved for photos of the individual, not for images of documents. The recommended practice for certificates of birth, baptism, death etc, is to create a Source record first, with (optionally) a transcription of the details in the...

I have a large collection of documents (a long diary transcript, telegrams, letters, newspaper cuttings, photos…. ) which all relate to the same topic. Re: Fact Note Sentence issue (TMG Imported template)
I’m pleased to say that the issues described earlier have been resolved in v7.0.20. Specifically: Replacing the sentence template with {note} no longer displays a spurious full stop before the sentence in the Property Box, and no longer results in incorrect spacing in a report. Replacing the sentenc...

Re: FH7 ancestry generations question
(EDIT: John's post arrived while I was writing this. ) I've just realised that you may be referring to the Ancestors tab of the Focus window. That can't be increased beyond 5 generations, probably because of space issues. However that really isn't a problem. You can simply simply shift the focus to ...

So I suppose going forward, if I only apply my top-level source citations to the <whole record> element and not Name, I will have the flexibility of turning the source citations on and off in reports, etc - is that right? Re: Questions relating to transitioning from RM9 to FH7
RootsMagic has the concept of “copying and pasting” a source, or alternatively, “reusing” one. I believe the best way to describe the difference is that one can independently edit the former resulting citations, whereas in the latter changing one changes all. Does FH7 have the same concept? How are...
