Unrecognised Files

Thanks, Nick, I'll try getting in touch with them. I only have a tiny number of images and no multimedia, but they are linked not embedded. The file is 706 bytes (I've no idea if this is big or not for a .GED file!).
Best,
Kirsty

Unrecognised Files

Hi Nick,
I'm saving them to the hard drive and it's seemed straightforward - no warning messages or anything as I save them.

Unrecognised Files

Yay! going via File->restore works! But do you have any idea why this happened? I would love to avoid this happening in future - it's not the first time I've lost data in this way (I posted in the past about similar problems). I use my laptop all the time and have no problems with other programmes -...

Unrecognised Files

Hi Nick, thanks for getting back to me. That's yes to your first question. Re: the second, the backups were saved as zips, and it's when accessing them from File->open that they give that message. Will try going via file->backup/restore now and see if it makes any difference.

Unrecognised Files

On opening the gedcom file that I have been working on, I received the message 'unrecognised file format', and the file was not opened. Going back to a backup (in fact, all of my backups), Family Historian is not recognising any of them, despite there not being a problem with them 3 days ago. They a...

Trailer record?

Thanks, Jane. That's what I will have to do - but this is the second time I have had such a problem (last year I posted here when all my references disappeared, but again there didn't seem to be any explanation for it). I think this is the end of the road for me with FH ...

Trailer record?

Hi there, I've just logged into my FH files for the first time in a few weeks, only to be greeted with the message 'File not terminated correctly (no trailer record found)'. My 3000+ individuals have been reduced to 300, and the programme seems to have removed all family links. I've looked all over ...

Disappearing sources

Hi Simon, Jane, and thanks again for the speedy reply. I'm using version 2.2. I checked for last updates, and the individual entries I entered on the morning of the 29th are there, as is the one I was working on on the afternoon of the 29th when I discovered the problem - so it's not an old version....

Disappearing sources

Hi Jane, thanks for your speedy response. I've never used any other program with my gedfile, beyond saving reports into Word - but even that I haven't done for a few weeks. I don't know what split tree work is, so certainly haven't been doing it knowingly, but I will go in now and read up on it. If ...

Disappearing sources

Hello, I wonder if someone can help? When I switched on my computer this afternoon and loaded up Family Historian, I discovered that all my notes and sources have disappeared. I was using the program with no difficulty this morning, and saved and exited as usual with no problem. However, the notes a...
