Page breaks in Sources section
I was trying to tidy up an Individual Summary Report. I've spotted how to start the Sources section on a new page, but because I like to include my images, I often get the situation where the source title and the image are on different pages. Is there a 'Keep together'-type option somewhere that wou...

Second marriage in Ancestral Source
Nick, not complaining, I'm one happy lady [smile] More an observation that I thought others might come across. Think it's fab to be able to enter marriages with AS - been using it all afternoon as it was always such a chore to enter all the information in a consistent format before! I want to go bac...

Second marriage in Ancestral Source
But..... when entering a census event, using the same technique for picking a woman (i.e. picking her maiden name) results in her married name being included in FH, without any editing, so presumably AS is seeing the marriage event then? Or am I misunderstanding your explanation? Incidentally, the c...

Second marriage in Ancestral Source
Firstly, it's brilliant to be able to enter the marriages - thank you [smile] I've just entered the two marriages for one female relative. First marriage was straight forward and the text looked much as I had expected. When I came to enter the second marriage, I used the same technique - picked the ...

Drop-box in diagram
Apologies if this is a repeat; I'm sure that I've seen this issue raised before, but I can't find the thread. In the attached diagram, Joseph, Mary and Wheeler are siblings, but Joseph look as though he is a different generation. (a) Why does this happen? (b) How can I fix it so that they are all at...

Why do I have a non-straight descendant line?
And as if by magic........[smile]
Thank you so much for sorting this out!
So effectively it means 'If this box is checked, spouse boxes will be taken into account when centring children below their parents ....even if there is no spouse'

Why do I have a non-straight descendant line?
This is driving me nuts! In my descendant diagram, I have several instances where a couple has a single child, but where the decendant line is obstinately kinked, even though there is plenty of room and no spouse (see attached) What am I doing wrong? http://www.fhug.rjt.org.uk/images/uploads/FHUG-po...

How to rename a large number of files?
Irfanview (free downloadable) is also worth a look
Apart from batch renaming, you can do batch resizing and conversion of graphics files to another graphics format.
Good all-rounder to have on your desktop

Hiding BMD and census icons on a diagram
I use icons extensively on diagrams so that I can see at a glance where I have missing or unconfirmed information. However, when I send diagrams to relatives, I would like to suppress the icons. Is this possible? I thought that I had managed to do this previously; I've searched and I can't spot the ...

Guidance on Census Events
Thank you for your swift replies - they are really helpful. To date I had been using the individual census event, but I wondered if I was misunderstanding/mis-using it, so I thought I should get a clearer of understanding of the family census event. I have used GedCOM census in the past (it is a whi...

Guidance on Census Events
The bit of the original question that I'm still not clear on is ' ....what is the difference between a Census event and a Family census event ?' Hopefully an answer to this would provide me with some clarification of when the different events should be used. My supplementary question is ' Are their ...

Thank you Peter and Jane.
I understand now how my uncertainty arose. I was attaching a certificate to a source, not a photo to an individual, so the use of the date isn't readily apparent.
Thanks again

Where did you find that text in the on-line help? I can't find that in the on-line help at all - I would have expected it to be in the page on the Multimedia window.

I've had a search through old posts and the on-line help, but I can't spot what the Date column refers to (date on a certificate, date source entered or what?). Also where else is that date used? Can anyone enlighten me please?
Thanks in advance.

Suppressing flags on diagrams
I have set up flags for census years and for birth, marriage and death certificates. For most diagrams, I want these to be visible so that I can see the information I have/need on each individual. However, for diagrams that I want to share, I would like to be able suppress the flags on, for example,...

Age on death / burial
I have just finished entering details about a person who died at the age of 44, a couple of days before her 45th birthday. Her burial came after the date of her 45th 'birthday' If I add 44 as the age at burial, FH thinks that this age is incorrect and inserts a ! next to the age. I would have though...

Birth name v Adopted name
I'm probably doing something very stupid, but try as I might, as soon as I add the illegitmate child, I get a tab in the marriages section of the individual. If I go into the family record and remove the 'husband' I lose the child. I can get the ancestors diagram to be correct, showing both 'familie...

Birth name v Adopted name
Thanks for the replies on naming - I've got that sorted out now. Unlike other examples I've found on the forum and in the manual, the birth mother was not married when she had her daughter. Some years after she had the daugter adopted, the mother married and had children with her spouse. Is there an...

I have entered a large proprtion of my husband's family into FH and I am impressed that, too date, all the stumbling blocks I've encountered could be overcome by the flexibility of the software. However, my latest problem is causing some soul-searching! By a bit of lateral thinking and a good deal o...
