Re: Help with Diagram Box Text

Hi Mike, sorry, I haven't been able to get this to work :( Using the completed expression produces " Template is invalid ". So I thought I'd try just the TextIf statement to see if I could work it out for myself - that produced "The expression beginning at position 26 of the template is not a recogn...

Re: Help with Diagram Box Text

Really useful thread with some great ideas and solutions. Following on from this, one thing that I'd really like to be able to do is use 'Partner' text in diagrams instead of Spouse for "Unmarried Couple" and "Never Married" I changed "Spouse" to to "Spouse/Partner", but of course that changes it fo...

Re: Adoption entries

Sorry, I wasn't very clear ... I don't want the a.k.a. to be suppressed, just the additional occurrence of the word Spouse. so Alice's box would say: Horatio Thomas Barrett Lambourne Born: Marr: Spouse: Alice Georgina Christian a.k.a. Alice Georgina Huggins Died: I suspect that it isn't possible, in...

Re: Adoption entries

Thanks for this Mike The result is in the top part of the image, which shows the Spouse repeated twice, which is obviously what that string gives: Spouse: Alice Georgina Christian Spouse: a.k.a. Alice Georgina Huggins It would be nice if it was possible to suppress the second occurrence, but I under...

Re: Adoption entries

Adding to the existing post, as it's a potentially relevant question .... In a descendant chart, with "Spouse in own box", a spouse who is adopted will have a.k.a. [adopted name] if that's how you've indicated the adopted name and using the relevant text scheme. That's all fine... BUT, if I use "One...

Re: Record Flags, Icons and Diagrams

My laptop is still on v6.2 and I used the saved v 6 backup from my PC. The data restore worked OK - just the 6.2 plugin for settings that I'm struggling to restore on the 6.2 laptop . Ah, my laptop was never updated with the expressions as I haven't used the laptop much since I finished my split-loc...

Re: Record Flags, Icons and Diagrams

Mike, I did a full backup before I upgraded & I did the Backup & Restore settings plus a registry backup. I restored the full backup to my laptop (I had added a lot of information since the last time I had used it.) I tried to use the Backup & Restore settings plugin, but it said it couldn't find th...

Re: Record Flags, Icons and Diagrams

is it rectifiable given that I haven't done a backup for a while ... Do you happen to have any saved Charts (not the same thing as diagram types) and, if so, do they have all the required box conditions? If you have any they will be under Charts > Saved Charts . It would be possible to recover the ...

Re: Record Flags, Icons and Diagrams

Correct - no Condition Expressions at all! And no custom flags either :( My advice is to never rely on customisations in the standard Diagrams. Always save as a Custom Diagram Type and keep the standard Diagrams in their default configuration. Remember also that any customisation changes to any one ...

Re: Record Flags, Icons and Diagrams

Hi Mike Following on from all the help you gave me to get this up and running, I was so pleased with the result. Since then, I've successfully merged two projects and updated to ver 7. However, today I think I have committed a big boo-boo, which I suspect is going to involve me entering all the expr...

Re: Export to TNG from scratch!

Hi Harold Thank you for such a detailed reply, which I will read thoroughly. The more I read, the more I realise that it's been all about confidence and little gaps in my knowledge/understanding of how TNG works. I am going to take the next couple of days to set up and run a small test. I'll let you...

Re: Export to TNG from scratch!

Thank you Adrian. I'll answer the Guild question first; if you are doing a One Name Study and are a member of the Guild, you can have a TNG site (or Guild + WordPress site) set up by the Guild webmaster for you, on purchase of a TNG licence. Your One Name Study forms the basis of the website, althou...

Re: Export to TNG from scratch!

Hi ADC65 Thanks for this very helpful feedback and willingness to share your experiences. As an IT person all my working life, I find it quite alien to be unable to work out how to move forward, so your comments, particularly about the structure of the media are particularly useful. When I started F...

Re: Export to TNG from scratch!

Thanks for the reply Mike and thanks for the additional link that I hadn't previously spotted. I have a small project from a family that I won't be including in the TNG site, because it's not associated in any way with my One Name Study, but it is representative of the way I have worked with my bigg...

Export to TNG from scratch!

Finally upgraded to v 7.019 and I am just starting my journey to get to grips with TNG. But I'm feeling as if I'm stumbling at the first hurdle, because despite looking at other forum posts and help I really don't understand how to get my media/links to my media across. My media is set up in subfold...

I had looked at it and counted and even resorted to colouring the brackets, but obviously made a mistake & still couldn't spot the error!

Re: Record Flags, Icons and Diagrams

Hi Mike, sorry to resurrect this! I've been getting on well with using expressions as tutored by you, but have come across one I can't sort out :) As I'm now further back with my ONS, I want to make a change to this one so that the early dates don't have a flag that indicates a missing birth source ...

I've managed to sort out all the flags and icons that I wanted to use, and I'm really pleased with the result; thank you Mike. I just have one more question to ask! Re: 1921 UK Census AS Source Template

As usual, I'm (very) late to the party! I haven't updated to v7 of either FH or Ancestral Sources, so: (1) do I need v7 of AS to get this template to work? I downloaded and tried to import it, but it's not appearing in the census drop-down list (2) will v7 of AS work with v6 FH, or do I need to upda...
