Can anyone suggest what this female forename is? It's from a 1915 record and the girl was English.

Add image to post?
How do I do this? I clicked on 'Upload Image File', found the file, clicked 'Submit' and was told that the image had been uploaded. It didn't appear in the message panel so where is it? How do I get it to appear in the message?

I can't reccomend anything but when I entered 'Find duplicate files' in Google I got 335,000 hits. There must be something useful in that lot!

I got the Bad Census Index Blues
Jane, Perhaps it's worth mentioning that, although the 1911 census isn't accessible on-line, it is possible to get information about an address by requesting it from the National Archives. It costs £45 for each request, ie, each address. Application form : http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/1911cens...

Nick,
Thanks for posting the link to the ifhf site. I clicked on it out of idle curiousity, entered a few names 'just for laughs' and found a family link which I didn't know existed.

Jane,
I tried that link but there isn't a location field. I get:
Institution address
City
State
Zip
Phone
I tried putting International in the address field but it just sent me back to the form. Has it changed since yesterday?

Jane,
You might well be correct. The BL site says that the facility is available only to Further and Higher Education establishments and in BL reading rooms.

Can't access it here, either (1400 GMT), after a very successful session yesterday. Hopefully it's just a temporary problem.

Having had a look at some old newspapers on the site which is mentioned in the Research forum, I believe that they were contortionists - unless someone knows better.

Theatrical term: Grotesque
A great aunt was on the stage with her parents in mid/late 1880s. She was descibed in newspapers as 'the only Grotesque Child in the Profession' and 'the only Child Grotesque in the World, and a Wonder'. She and her parents were referred to as ' our Grotesque Trio of Novelty (not High Kicking)'. Doe...

I think that davidb is correct. I had missed that badly knotted tie. No military man would have been photographed like that.

I improved the picture and, although I stand open to correction, I think that he might be French or Belgian. I don't think that the thick, corded epaulettes are British style. He also has circular insignia on the lapels, which I don't think is British. Also the cap badge doesn't look British and the...

Army death registration
An uncle was killed during a live-firing exercise in Britain in 1942. I have all his service and domestic info and the CWGC info but I don't know where he was killed or where the death was registered. I can't find him on BMD searches and GRO at Southport have no trace. Any ideas? Did the Army regist...

I would appreciate some help with a couple of points:
I can't find a redo/undo/cancel-last-action command. Is there such a command?
Is is possible to delete lines between boxes?

Thanks for the replies. I am hoping that any register might have more info than appears on the card. I'll see if FRC has any ideas. Perhaps restrictions won't apply to next-of-kin.
