Thank you.
I hope to get the new PC set up in the next few days, current FH most importantly.
Then I'll get down to re-reading all the information on upgrading.
Thanks so much to all you kind people who help.

Re: Column settings backup
Many thanks for that, Jane.
It was the Windows plugon I used.
So I will just keep fingers crossed it all works (not very technical here!)

Column settings backup
Hi,
I am preparing for a new PC (Windows 7 to 11 and FHv6 - will be upgraded to 7 on new PC)
I have downloaded and run the plugin to backup settings (thank you!)
My question is, does this backup include my settings for columns in the record window? (I have added several)

Re: Create diagram from named list
Hi, Sorry, perhaps I didn't word it very well re the ladies called Ann. If said ladies had relatives, they would also be required on the diagram. Why? Well, I have many small files/projects which I use to work out who's who, who belongs to whom and so on, in order to decide who's "mine". So, which o...

Create diagram from named list
Hi, Is it possible to put the people on a named list - and only these people - onto a diagram? It's something I often want to do - e.g. see on a diagram all those baptised in Village X, or with the same surname but not necessarily related, or all the ladies called Ann etc. I have looked in the Knowl...

Yes, I'd tried the first idea, no luck.
The second idea works, much quicker, many thanks, just what I needed.

Prevent focus window opening
Hi, I am at the moment entering a large number of individuals into a mini one-name file (Project). At the moment not many relationships are known, so it's mostly a long list. I like to work with the property box open in front of the records window (so that I can keep my eye on any duplications/inter...

Re: Named list note
Thank you.
I'm afraid it would have to be a very long name! It rambles on about all sorts.
Oh well, I'll just have to remember to use the Properties to check where I've put things.

Named list note
Hi, Is there anywhere to put a note on a Named List other than in the drop-down Properties? I would like to be able to see it when I open the Named List pane. It's a note on the whole list (i.e. why it's there, and what I'm trying to do with the records in it, etc.) so can't put it in individual rec...

Re: FH Charts and upgrade
Thank you.
I had a vague idea that when I upgraded to v3, some saved diagrams disappeared, but it's a long time ago.
Thanks for the links; I obviously have a lot more reading to do!

FH Charts and upgrade
Hello, Apologies if this has been answered before, but I can't find it anywhere. I am considering upgrading to V6 from V3 (finally!) I have at least 20 one-name files, each with numerous Saved FH Charts with icons/flags/colour codes, etc. Will the upgrade delete these? I can only find info about tra...

Re: V3 on new computer - help please
Thanks Jane,
I'd seen the article before and have now saved it. (My other problem is that our internet connection has got lost and we're having to use wifi for brief spells in cafes!)
You make it seem much easier than I'd thought!

V3 on new computer - help please
Hi, Old XP computer has died (I'm told the motherboard is the problem). New PC will be Windows 7, and I am having the data transferred. I have read the posts about re-installing V3, but still have queries that I'm hoping some of you knowledgeable people can answer: I have CDs for V2.1.6 and the V3 u...

Confused-family records
Hi Jane, Oops, sorry. Yes, forgot the Family tab when merging.[oops] On experimenting, though, I still find that when I split a tree, all the family records are kept. As far as I can see no links left to them at all. But will re-check settings next time I do this. Version is v3+all the updates. Th...

Confused-family records
Thanks Jane,
I'll have a go at that.
The aren't actually a problem - just don't really want them there!
Just for future reference - when splitting a file, is there a way of deleting unneeded family records along with the individuals? Or is the way to upgrade to V4 ...?

Confused-family records
Needing a little help here - head's getting confused... I've been doing a bit of 'housekeeping' and trying to understand the Family Records. At various times over the years, I've split files (records from several mini 1-name studies) and then merged them into my main file. All works fine, except......

Saved diagram lost pics
Simon, Thanks for your reply. I have been playing with this, and it resolved itself when I removed the image from FH and then reinserted it from scratch. It then displayed normally. No idea what happened. To answer your questions, though: Preferences - I meant in the (person) Multimedia tab No flags...

Saved diagram lost pics
Hi Jane, I'm using V3.1 The 3 people are linked only to jpegs, no pdfs (nor any other formats)in their records at all. In the Property Box media, their pictures open as normal - just not on the diagram. Have tried altering the picture preference order, removing picture and putting back again, but ...

Saved diagram lost pics
This is probably something simple, but... I have opened a diagram saved a couple of years ago, to update. All as it was, with pictures and text, etc., except for 3 boxes: these 3 have a pdf logo/icon where the picture should be. (Picture is jpeg, and displays correctly in person's own record). None ...

Another idea:
Could it perhaps be a photo of 4 generations?
The lady in the middle looks rather older to me than the man seated.

Another census transcription please?
Hi,
Some ideas:
I read the first as Laster, which was a job in shoes. You might find the following link interesting:
http://www.northants1841.fsnet.co.uk/shoe.html
The second could be Folder Books, so maybe to do with making books?? -(Just an idea).
Hope that helps.

Problem printing diagram
Hi Simon, Thanks for the ideas. I've been experimenting, and the results seem to be: The only diagram to exceed to 16-bit limit test was the Everyone diagram - just did that to experiment, didn't want to print it! However, in experimenting, I found that, whatever the size of the diagram, the lines d...

Hi Jane,
The printer is HPDeskjet 6540, installed about 10 mths ago.
As far as I know the driver is up to date (not very technically minded, but can't find any updates on the website).

Problem printing diagram
Hi, When I print out a diagram, some of the boxes are scored through by diagonal(usually)lines. These lines do not appear on the screen, only on the print copy. If I 'shrink' the diagram, e.g. by removing pictures, or moving the grid, the lines move to different boxes. Diagrams without boxes do not...
