Sorting of names to optionally ignore middle names
True, and I have created a query to do this as you described previously, though I've found that I prefer the add to named list and then sort method. However, having to switch to the query, run it, enter the name, switch back to the record is not good from a usability factor and it would get in the w...

Multiple column sorting in record window
That would be a good solution. It would make the program a bit more consistent with all places where a record could be viewed being the same as opposed to currently where the query side has it's own special way of displaying things.

Sorting of names to optionally ignore middle names
With reference to my problem of trying to find potential candidates when I have 200 people with the same name it would be useful if the sorting by name could ignore middle names. Not all BMD indicies hold the full names so when trying to find a match I'm more interested in the dates, but sorting by ...

Multiple column sorting in record window
The reason I like the named list method is because I can open up multiple records. The all tab in the property dialog only opens up one. The click on each column in order is semi-useful but every time you add/delete/amend you have to remember to click the columns again. So it would still be nice to ...

Multiple column sorting in record window
Thanks for the info. That nearly works, except that middle names throws the neat trick. All the people with middle names come after the ones without, even with the dates sorted first - which basically is useless to me. I might as well go through each individually so the named list trick works for me...

Multiple column sorting in record window
Currently you can specify the sort order of the columns in the record window when you configure them. However only the column last clicked on is sorted (in the order defined when configuring). It would be better (and more useful) if the sorting was across columns and that the order of the columns co...

Diagram manipulation to be more keyboard driven
True, but Adobe Reader also supports dragging with the middle mouse button as well as the left mouse button. What I'm trying to get across is the usability factor. What is the most likely thing to do with a diagram - move it around to look at different parts. Supporting this feature in the many comm...

Diagram manipulation to be more keyboard driven
Jane, thanks for the info about the use of the space bar. Not a very common thing in Windows programs so not something I thought to try - plus its use is hidden in the help. I know, RTFM, but to be honest I have used many different Windows programs and I can use many new ones without resorting to he...

Diagram manipulation to be more keyboard driven
Currently you can zoom the diagram using the numeric keypad's + and - keys. You can also move around the diagram using the arrow keys - so long as you have selected a box first. However it should be possible to move the diagram (without having to drag) by using the arrow keys. This will be exactly l...

There is an XML definition for Gedcom as written by the LDS. However, it's not been touched for years and is unlikely to be touched for years.
The XML def is here - http://www.familysearch.org/GEDCOM/GedXML60.pdf. Note the date - 2001!

Diagram not updated properly when entering data
Thanks but I wasn't interested in a work around as the Window-Refresh corrects the problem and it an esoteric bug in that it only happens when you hit the back button. Except that when you create a record by using the diagram drag and drop method and click on the back button, the diagram is updated....

Diagram not updated properly when entering data
If you enter individuals via the property dialog with the diagram window open and showing the family you are adding to, the diagram is not updated properly in certain circumstances. I enter a child's details in their parent's dialog by first entering their name and birth date, then clicking the '>>'...

Searching multiple event/attributes
Searching multiple events should be an easy thing to do. It's also more common than searching for a specific instance of an event. If you're looking for something across many individuals how are you to know if it's their first marriage or their second that you need to examine. There is the [1+] meth...

Name index to be split into alpha sections
It would be useful if there was an option to allow the name index to be split into multiple pages, ordered by first letter of surname. When you have a tree with 5000 individuals, the index can get pretty big - 600Kb in my case and it can take some time to load. It must be an option because those wit...

B&D dates in main tab of property dialog
I didn't have time to screen grap before the symptoms disappeared. I've got screen grabs from after the dates had disappeared from the All tab so they don't show a mismatch between the two. Below is the Gedcom record for the person, but with the dates added back in that would have been there. Attach...

B&D dates in main tab of property dialog
Yes, the property dialog was open. I keep it open all the time along with the sources pane. Re-opening the file didn't help. I looked at the file just after it had occured in another program and the individual didn't have dates for B or D. I can confirm that when I first noticed that the individual ...

B&D dates in main tab of property dialog
I've just come across a small problem with the property dialog. On one individual I noticed that the main tab of the property dialog didn't show the individual's birth and death dates, though they appeared in the lifedates column in the record window. When I went to the All tab, the dates were there...

Thanks Jane, that'll do nicely. Would have prefered a free entry of the date since I sometimes work in just years so I'm forced to enter 01/01/yyyy but other than that it a brilliant solution - just needs the connection to FH to know the currently selected individual and Bingo! [wink]

Further to my last message, I take it back. FH does always select the whole name field when you double click a record.
