Flags not working in diagrams
Can anyone tell me why a Record Flag might not show as an icon in a A&D diagram. Is this another one of the many little bugettes and limitations in FH that I have found? I have a record flag for all my UK individuals and that shows as a UK flag on the diagram. I also have one for all my American ind...

Posting Certificates on the Web
Technically the documents are copyrighted, but so long as you not making money from it it is a minor worry. Look at how many other sites publish scans of documents. It's like copying tapes in the 80s - so many people did it it was impossible to police and so long as you weren't blatent about it and ...

anyone have experience with FTM for Mac?
Apparently installing the old program on the new computer is not an option -- as of OS X the operating system is quite different, and while some Macs had the ability to run the older programs, I'm told that the newest ones no longer have that feature. Actually when I said to install FTM on the new ...

Sort places in reverse display order
Jane, sorry you can't click on column headings when viewing records to do a reverse display sort. You only have a single place column per event/attribute and that can only be displayed in short, medium, tidy or full. I agree that this is possible in the Work with Places dialog since the column headi...

anyone have experience with FTM for Mac?
I don't know much about FTM but wouldn't it have a facility to allow upgrading of the database when the program version changes. Then it just becomes a matter of installing FTM on the new computer and transferring the database as is to the new computer. If however, you are talking about transferring...

Sort places in reverse display order
It would be nice if there was an option to sort places in reverse display order as well as in normal display order. By this I don't mean Z to A and A to Z, but where the list sorts by country first, then state/county, etc. This would make working with places a bit more useful as you can then find in...

Find - to allow AND/OR and also by whole word
You're close in understanding my problem. When I search for King County I get results including such things as 'working in Hertfordshire county' which is obviously not a useful result.

Find - to allow AND/OR and also by whole word
Anyone who has used queries will realise that it doesn't solve the problem. Performing a query on King County produces the same problems as using Find in that the results include any record containing the words (sorry, better description is LETTERS as buc KING hamshire and wor KING get included) kin...

Find - to allow AND/OR and also by whole word
I would like to see the Find function in FH to have the same and better functionaltiy as Wordpad's. For example, Wordpad allows search to find whole words, not just if the search criteria is within a word. Also it performs it seach for contiguous words. AND and OR would also be useful because then s...

Father's surname to be added automatically
Currently FH automatically appends the father's surname to a child's name when a child's record is created after the father. It would be a logical and sensible extension of this facility to have the father's surname appended automatically when he is created after the child.

To make the Find in Diagram function work properly
Ingenious solution, I'll give it a try. But I still would like the wish list item to stay on the list since the current find in diagram method needs to be made a lot better and a lot more useful for users who would expect it to work.

Allow setting of flags when adding records
Basically to copy the functionality of automatic source citations to flags. So the same way that citations can be made against new records and optionally new fields, it would be nice if flags could be set as individuals are added. The thinking behaind this is similar to that for auto-source in that ...

To make the Find in Diagram function work properly
This is a simple request to make the Find in Diagram function work purely as a proper Find function just like the other find function. I consider in my opinion that the Find in Diagram feature to be a brain dead implementation of a find function. Sorry, but that's my view because it is so useless to...

A simple workaround to the problem of which occupation is the one shown on reports and diagrams by default is to move the preferred occupation to the top of the list of occupations. This does make one of the occupations out of order in terms of dates, but that only matters really for dateless events...

More types of child/parent relationship
You can set the relationship that a child has to their 'parents' through the relationship attribute of the parent's family link. The settings currently supported are Adopted, Adopted (father), Adopted (Mother), Birth, Birth (father), Birth (mother), De Facto, De Facto (father), De Facto (mother), Fo...

For an alternative XML spec for genealogical purposes see http://www.cosoft.org/genxml/index.html . As for FH breaking the Gedcom spec by supporting formatted text - it won't. Gedcom allows ANSI or ANSEL text which includes characters such as which are used in HTML tags and [ and ] which are used as...

Talking about GR, it's not just the import that has problems. The export of a Gedcom from GR mucks up the occupation field. What GR does is put the occupation in the PLAC field followed by the place. So when you work with places in FH you get loads of unusual places! [smile] eg. 1 OCCU Ag Lab Presto...

To allow editing during the merge process
When merging records there are times when merging two fields doesn't fix all the incompatiblities. For instance when merging places, sometimes it's a combination of the two places that needs to be stored rather than just one or the other. Other times due to the inconsistencies between the two record...

Excluding living relatives
However the split tree helper function (STHF) does not help in terms of removing details from living people. Strangley FH does does this for living people elsewhere in the program - in the generation of a website. Another silly inconsistency in FH.

Date Format - U.S. Customary
Robin's saying the same thing as me. Entry of dates in the US format of Aug 26, 2007 is not accepted by FH. Entry of dates in FH in the US format is only allowed in the numeric only format of 08/26/2007. So if you have any dates in your Gedcom file that were exported from FTM you need to make sure t...

Date Format - U.S. Customary
I think I see the problem. When you complain about the lack of US date format support, you are mainly talking about the DISPLAY of dates. The format FH uses all the time is 26 Aug 1988, whilst the US format as you state is Aug 26, 1988. FH doesn't seem to honour the Windows system setting and just u...

To not show 1st, 2nd, etc cousins in seperate rows
I would like to see an option for diagrams that allows 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th cousins etc to be kept in one band/row along with others of the same generation. I have so many nth cousins that the seperation between a child and their parents is soooooooo great that even on a 1600x1200 display with FH...

I suspect that since the date format is under the File Load/Save tab that it's only related to loading a file and how to recognise dates in imported GedComs. To really change the way FH uses dates you enter you'll need to change Window's settings. This will affect all other programs as well. Go into...

Thanks. I didn't realise that the file isn't 'in memory' so I can understand the problems involved in a re-write and I take into account that it is a 'hobby' program done in your spare time (but still very useful). So ignore my request. In terms of the backup bit, just the ability to set the directo...
