Migrating from Roots Magic
See page 136 of the Getting the most out of FH manual or look under Uncategorised Data Fields in the help. You can select the records with a UDF through the Tool->Find Uncategorised Data menu option and place the records in a list. Run the 'Named list members' query. Adjust the columns to include th...

That still one mouse move which is still an age and a huge awkwardness. Read any book or guide about user interface design and they will all say 'do not mix mouse and keyboard under any circumstance'. Stick with one or the other. Diagrams can primarily use the mouse as they are graphical, but a gene...

I'm afraid the pain comes because FH sticks to the standard so much that you have problems importing from other researchers. I'm not saying that other programs don't have problems (see Ancestry and Genes for their 'special' versions) but the point about the standard is that it tries to cope with man...

Jane means the input box or in less computer gibberish the place where you type in the expression. The insert item is the button to the right labelled '' from the 'Sources For:' drop down list in the source pane and then create the citation.

Just because the Gedcom specification implies* that it's not allowed hasn't stopped many other programs from allowing same sex couples. One of FH's failings is to follow the Gedcom standard too closely for it's own database structure. Gedcom is a communications specification . A good genealogy progr...

The way it looks on screen and the way it is recorded in the raw GEDCOM are two completely different things. It wouldn't make sense for all information to be shown in GEDCOM format, it would really confuse people! So what is the reason why when you want to add the text to a citation you have to fir...

Automatic Repository in new source
I would have thought the IGI's repository is the LDS since they are the owners of the website which mainly hosts it and which it was set up for. However it all comes down to how you organise your citations/sources/repositories. Some have a few sources but many citations with the information mainly h...

Drop down choice in Source entry
The problem is due to a small bug in FH. When you create a new source in the record window and use the context menu to add the type to the source record FH uses auto-complete so you only need the first character or two. The same happens if you create a source in the property dialog via the Insert->S...

Agreed that they become date phrases since they aren't recognised by FH, however that means that they can't be sorted on so not necessarily that useful. Using the mouse to click the button to bring up the Date Helper, then re-positioning the mouse to click on the approriate qualifier radio button, t...

I agree. I would suggest also that the standard Gedcom abbreviations are used as well. Well FH does claim to be 100% Gedcom compatible doesn't it?
So 'abt YYYY' should work as well as common abbreviations seen elsewhere such as 'cYYYY' and '~YYYY'.

That's because this forum is for requests and initial discussion and they don't appear in the final list until Jane get round to placing them there.

Unsure about person match
That's the problem with all genealogy programs in that they mainly only record facts, not assertions. The only thing you can record as not proven is the quality of the source identifing the fact for an event. You can't record the quality of the event. So in your case you can label the source that ma...

No, more like 2 NOTE Q4 v2c p321
Same for marriages and deaths.
As you'll notice when you start editing, all lines start with a number. The number for the NOTE must be one higher than the event BIRT/MARR/DEAT.

converting description fields from Ancestry to FH
The problem is with the 'Q4 v2c p321' after the BIRT. The specification for Gedcom says that nothing should appear after BIRT except a Y (which is used to indicate that the birth happened but no date/place is known). Since FH is 100% gedcom compatible it rejects any deviations. The fault is with Anc...

Either use a Gedcom privatising program such as as GedClean ( http://www.raynorshyn.com/gedclean/index.html ) or use the Split Tree Helper Function (STHF). It would be useful if when you task switch to GC after you've updated the Gedcom elsewhere that you get the option NOT to load the file. At the moment GC informs you that it load the file leaving you with the only option of pressing OK and waiting for the file to load. On small files this isn't a pr...

As an example about how FH does somethings in awkward ways, try deleting a bunch of notes records. YOU CAN'T!!! in any obvious manner. The menu Edit->Delete is grayed out, the Del key doesn't work. Now I suppose you could use a query to find the records, but I just want to quickly select a number vi...

Finding duplicate records using a custom query
If you want to find potential duplicate records, get hold of PAF (free from the LDS) and run it's Tools->Match/Merge function. It'll do a reasonable job at find duplicates by looking at the names (middle names & soundex on surnames), birth date years, and parents.

Yes I realise that the query system can be used, but thats the point about why I am posting this wish list item. OK, thanks for that Jane - hits self in face for not looking in the menu [oops].
I would still like a 100% button on the toolbar and I most definatly would want the log scale removed and replaced with a more logical, useable and understandable linear zoom scale.
