Private Notes - a question and a cautionary tale
Yes you can mix the public and private sections of a note. And you can have multiple private sections in the same note.

Web Hosting
Since FH's website generation creates static HTML pages rather than dynamic with database requirements etc, pretty much any web hoster is acceptable. As to which, they are many which offer limited space (<50Mb) very cheaply. It depends on the size of your site - mine with over 70,000 individuals jus...

Property Box loses focus
It depends on whether the property box is docked or not. If it's floating and has focus switching back keeps the cursor in the property box. The moment you dock the box, the cursor's focus is placed elsewhere - the record window if that is open, or the diagram if that is open and even then it's not ...

inserting group pictures into the standard diagams
Other than posting this question into the wrong section, yes you can - just right click on a diagram and select 'Insert into Diagram...' and then select 'Picture...'

Diagram Window Refresh
The way I sometimes force a refresh is to do an app switch with Alt-TAB. Press once to switch away, and then again to switch back. I tend to use all my Windows programs full screen so this tends to work in forcing the diagram to refresh.

Property Box loses focus
FH always has serious usability problems. [frown] The loss of focus issue has already created such a huge frustration factor for me that I made a wish list request for it. See http://www.fhug.org.uk/wishlist/wldisplay.php?wlwlref=424 (Field to stay in focus on app switch). I would argue that this wi...

Records Window - Find in Diagram
Totally agree that it is a retrograde step to bring up the 'select records' window when using the Ctrl-H find function. And do you want to know why it is so stupid to bring up the window? Because you can't select more than one person so the whole point of the window is moot and just becomes a waste ...

Conventional Word Selection in Text Boxes
I would argue that bringing up the extended entry window with a extra mouse clicks is OK as it is already a long winded and slow method of entering a date/place. So I would argue that double-clicking in the text box to bring up the window to be removed. Keying in a date or place (with auto-complete)...

PDF Format not enabled
FH implements PDF support by installing a 'fake' printer. This 'printer' pretends to be a printer, but actually converts the output into a PDF file. The PDF output is not within FH (as many other programs implement it). To find the NovaPDF open up Window's control panel (not 'programs' which implies...

General consideration of the effect of name change
When I said with more than one name I meant more than one NAME entry. I didn't mean married names, nor nicknames or given names. If a user creates events to record a name change then multiple lines for each individual wouldn't appear as it's an event not a name. If they created multiple names for an...

Tooltips in diagram at small zoom sizes
Chris, yep life dates are probably better bet than the ID. The reason for the time limit on displaying the tooltip is because I was thinking that having them displayed all the time forces you to move your mouse just to clear the display. And I was having some initial thoughts about the idea. Thinkin...

General consideration of the effect of name change
Whole heartedly agree with you Chris. I too would prefer people with more than one name to be shown more than once in the appropriate place when sorted by name. When sorted on anything other than name, then the duplicate entries would appear next to each other so I would suggest a fine tuning to not...

Tab key wont leave format field in multimedia tab
While you're passing on the message could you also mention that the tab key gets trapped in the source pane when the property dialog is shown. You can tab through all the property dialog fields but when you enter the source pane, tabbing just cycles through the source pane fields and does not go bac...

Tooltips in diagram at small zoom sizes
Sometimes it necessary to zoom out of the diagram to get a better overall picture of family branch. When zooming out to the extent that the text is unreadable there is the danger of losing track of the locations of individuals. This hampers the use of the diagram at very small scale zoom factors. On...

File-gt;Save As
If File->Save As is not appropriate because of the use of projects, why is there still a File->Save which seems to save just the Gedcom file. Yes, FH uses projects but it doesn't do much beyond using it to organise sub-folders containing settings and media. Since most of the project's data is in the...

Gedcom import date issue
(app) in FH means approximate and is it's way of showing a date which is classified as 'about' in Gedcom terms. About in Gedcom means a date which is not exact, or there is some uncertainty about it, eg. two conflicting dates CALculated should be used if you are basing the date on an age at another ...

1930 US Census free access during Aug 2009
I joined footnote.com some time ago to get their email updates on my research surname which I occasionally get when an Axtell dies and their entry in the SSDI gets updated. So being the UK is no barrier. One note about the free access to the 1930 census - you HAVE to access it from the following URL...

Ignoring middle names in record window sorting
Good point, allow for either with first forename being the default. As a final note on this issue, the work around I've finally come up with is =text('/' . %INDI.NAME:SURNAME% . '/' . %INDI.NAME:FIRST% . Year(%INDI.BIRT.DATE%) ) as CombineText is more for prefixes and suffixes and will not output an...
