They don't have to be the focus person, but you do have to click inside the fact for the source to show (i.e. click on the date or place for the spouse fact to see your source citation)

Like Nick, I have always moved 'My Documents' to another drive and found it quite easy. I have problems with getting W7 to accept the other folder as the default. How did you manage to do it.

Correct usage of 'Place' and 'Address'
Or is there one.
Up to now I have been using:
'Place' to store - Town, County, Country
'Address' to Store - 'House/Property name' & No., Street pt1, Street pt2
However other posts seem to indicate that address should contain everything, which seems like unnecessary duplication.

Hi Nick,
When you first developed AS I applied to be a beta tester, but was a bit late.
I would like to beta test future versions if that is possible

A way round it would be to modify the way that yo combine address and place names.
The user could have a drop drown area priorty list to be used if no country is present in the place field.
How that could be coded I have no idea

I have discovered, that plotting using Address+Place, that if the street name does not exist, then google maps chooses a place on the outskirts of Rugby, even if the city is somewhere like Manchester or Liverpool. Although, conversely, it manages most locations on the Isle of Man correctly. Wish for...

As you are just starting, have you simply been opening your gedcom file in FH or have you imported it into a new project (this is how the project structure is created).
If you have just been opening your gedcom, then there is no project file for AS to open.

Date error on baptism entry
I have been using AS2 64bit for a while now. If I have a baptism where I do not already have a birth year in, on the save screen I get a chance to enter an estimated birth date. if I put in the same year as the baptism, there is an error message saying that this is later than the baptism, is this OK...

The full FMP subscription covers all census records, and has done so for over 2 years. In fact there is very little not covered by the full subscription

I just love unusual (By modern standards?) names. I have a distant relative bn 1835 with the name of Claudius Caesar Sayle. His younger brother bn 1839 was named Julius Caesar Sayle. He then named the youngest son by his first wife after him so Claudius Caesar Sayle [Jr] bn 1876. Finally, I came acr...

I use both ancestry and FMP, but tend to use FMP first and only use ancestry if I can't find someone on FMP. The similar names options on each will come up with completely different answers. As Mike says, the BMD records on FMP are now greatly improved. Looking for marriages, after you have searched...

Both methods are viable, but if you have started with individual sources, then stay with it. To record census entries ( and Baptisms), use ancestral sources. This already has the templates for the individual census years (other variations of templates are availbale in the downloads area. You are usi...

saving changes
A gedcom file isn't a database, it is a text file.
Changes are only saved when you save the file, or if you have autosave enabled., and then only at the set times, if there is anything to save.
when you exit, the backup it asks you to make, is just that. A compressed version of the last saved file.

I've just had this happen to me.
From my testing I have found that it only happens if you choose Open when you download using IE9.
IE8 is OK as is chrome.

I updated Janes Ancestors UK Census Checker plugin on both my PC's the same way, but with different results. Win XP & IE8 click on download, choose open. Plugin is downloaded and I get a message saying that plugin of that name already exits and will be overwritten. Click OK. Plugin is updated. W7x64...

Thanks Jane,
Works OK on XP with IE8.
Out of curiosity, at home with W7x64 and IE9 I have added the button controls back in, and it works fine.
So it must be just IE8 that is the problem.

Ancestor's UK Census Checker
Hi Jane,
v1.1 OK on FMP, but would be better with just first part of birth place, not whole entry. FMP is far more selective on what it shows, possibly even include only first forename.
Unfortunately the ancestry buttons do not work at all. There appears to be no link on the button

I have now been able to test on ancestry, and am not getting the problem of the shifted link.
I am on IE9 for the search with W7 Pro x64.
I haven't tested it with google chrome or Firefox yet.
I will test with Win XP and IE 8 tomorrow

Hi Jane,
Seems to work OK, but I only have a FMP subscription and not an ancestry one.
If you can get it to work for FMP then that would be excellent

I was wondering about the quota as well. Ran the plug at home, got about 2300 processed, then hit the quota. Went into work today and used my XP SP3 machine (All OK) and processed another 2300 (It does remember which are processed) and hit the quota again. I initially though quota might be IP addres...

2.1 loaded quickly with my file of 20,000+ individuals.
Place+Address works OK
Progress bar is good.
Got to 25% in 10 minutes and google decided I had reached my daily allocation limit.
All the fails, that I looked at, were down to 'iffy' addresses such as vessels

What other software do you use for Family History?
I have been using Gedview, for iphone / ipod touch & ipad.
It started off as just a viewer, but now you can make changes and email them back to yourself.
I still use it maily so that I can always have my gedcom file with me.
