'File has changed' notification issue
That was my first thought, but ever since it first happened I have made sure that autosave is off on both Computers that I use.

'File has changed' notification issue
Thanks Mike, That's exactly what I am saying. This used to happen occasionally in FH4 as well, but I couldn't be absolutely sure that I had correctly saved the FH file before using AS. Now that I always use Mike's Plugin to start AS, I know that it's not my error. Only happens about 1 in 20 times, a...

No.
This is after saving in AS.
As has changed the file but FH still thinks changes have been made between opening AS via the plugin (Causing a save file operation) and the file being saved by AS.

I use Mike Tate's plugin to start AS, which prompts for a file save if needed. However, occasionally, (And I haven't been able to isolate the circumstances) I still get an error on switching back to FH, that file has been changed, do I want to lose my changes. I know there haven't been any chages, b...

I use method 2, as well.
There is an option to directly record the transcript straight into the text from source field instead of a linked note. This is the way that I use AS.

Saving Favourites in Google Chrome
When you Install chrome on your PC, it will ask you if you want to copy your favourites and bookmarks into chrome.
These will then appear in a folder on the bookmarks bar called 'Imported From IE'

Thanks very much Mike,

I'm trying to tweak a downloaded custom query that shows whether a census event, source and or image are present. I have successfully changed the ancestor for descendent. I would like to show 'BB' or 'AD' for each year that is before birth or after death. At present the following line gives a Y if a...

mapping coordinates during World War II
I would read it as either 48.50 deg North by 9.4 deg E which is Bad Urach in Germany
or (more likely) 48d 50m N by 9d 40m E which is Alfdorf in Germany.
I used the converter at http://twcc.free.fr/ with the input system set to GCS Anna 1 1965.
It may be worth experimenting with the different systems

You can 'clean Install' your v5 upgrade as long as you have your v4 username and key, and your v5 username and key.. Remember that the username may be different for each version.

Taken from Hints and tips:
press and hold [ALT] while dragging to add a person, adds a person without any dialogue box being opened.
You then have to remember to choose the sex of course.

Search media keywords
At present, the media keywords search uses 'OR', so clicking on e.g. 1871 census England gets you any matches for any of the keywords. 1871 OR Census OR England I would like an option to use 'AND' instead So in my example the same search would only match with media that had all 3 keywords, in my opi...

I have my options set to start with records window, and always have my records window sorted by 'updated'. I use Mike Tate's plugin and have AS set to close on save. That way, when FH reloads, the top person in the records view is one of the group of people I was working on in AS. Obviously the same...

Census Transcripts and handwriting
There are quite a few 'Missing' areas in the 1851 census, especially in the Northwest. These were water damaged and have been transcribed by various organisations. Any transcription is the personal opinion of the peson who did it. Cale and Cole could be very difficult to differentiate, unless you kn...

I used to use Generations, and had a similar lot of UDF's.
Generations would allow you to attach a source mid text, whereas FH won't.
This was the cause of most of my UDF's
I wish the plug-in had been available then, as I had to convert all mine by hand.

I would recommend reporting the issue to them direct.
They may pick it up from the FHUG, but best to report it direct.

The 3 Backup Options. Small, as before, just creates a zipped copy of your Gedcom file. Medium, Backs up the project file and data sub folder only. Full, Backs up your entire project (including media) There is no backup management, each backup is separate and is titled with date and time. Personally...

With an upgrade, can you not go straight from any full version, be it vers 2, 3 or 4, to ver 5. Thus bypssing multiple installs. After all, I know there are some out there still on vers 3 (or 2 for that matter). If they buy a vers 5 upgrade package, they don't need to have vers 4 ( or 3 & 4), just a...
