'New!' Persists after Reading Postings

I believe it is related to the time/date of the last post to the thread.
Probably this might also explain why we see a date of 29 February (non-leap year), 31 April, 31 June, 31 September and 31 November here in Australia which as I understand it doesn't happen in England.

Text for Emigration & Immigration Facts

Mike, I use the Immigration tag for people migrating between countries and the Emigration tag for people travelling, whether that's internal or external to a country. I only occasionally use the Address, generally for the name of a Port, e.g. Port Jackson (Address) in Sydney, NSW (Place). This is ap...

Text for Emigration & Immigration Facts

This has prompted me to finally let you know the problem (?) in the plugin Map Life Facts v3.0 with both immigration and emigration. When dealing with these facts, it displays one of the places in the links on the left of the page but shows the other place in the actual map. I would have thought it ...

Thanks Mike.  I'll have a look at that when I can.  Again your efforts are appreciated.

Map Life Facts PlugIn

Mike Would it be a good idea to also recognise NT and WA as Australian States if the Set Preference Option Region Bias Code is au Australia? I think so.  There's also SA (South Australia) versus SA (South Africa) without any comma I do have the commas present in the database Alternatively, you could...

Map Life Facts PlugIn

I've installed this plugin and find that it is choosing a wrong location for Perth WA (Western Australia). It is showing the place as in north-western USA. Similarly it is incorrectly showing Salter Point WA (Western Australia) about the same place.

Website Generators

Ikas I use a programme called GED-GEN (http://www.ged-gen.com) which for static pages, I regard as being without peer.  The extent of customisation is marvellous.  Through its linking capabilities I link to a Family Historian customised Individual Narrative Report for each person.  On the main famil...

Root Box Alignment in Charts/Diagrams

Lorna
Thanks for your efforts.  I'm contacting Calico today about the issue. Whatever the problem is it's not occurring on every chart.

Root Box Alignment in Charts/Diagrams

I have found that the problem arises whenever the box has additional data to display in it. When first loaded all is OK but as soon as an attempt is made to expand the box at the bottom or the right it expands on the top of the box itself. While my previous comment about redoing the chart itself doe...

Root Box Alignment in Charts/Diagrams

- (Edited) It is obtained from an existing Family Historian Chart i.e. View > Saved Charts... - It is a standard diagram box not an overlay I've just tried regenerating the diagram from the Chart and the result is OK so this might be the way to go but I hope I don't have to do this too often. (I've ...

Root Box Alignment in Charts/Diagrams

I've just gone to update a diagram in v5 and find the boxes are now out of alignment (bottom image) versus how they used to be (top image). I've experimented with the box dimensions but can't find any way to have the tops of the boxes level the way they were. Any suggestions on how to resolve this w...

Removing images from individual summary reports

The previous solution disallows any other source images being displayed in your report.  An alternative approach is to select the Source tab and then open the Property Box for the Source involved.  Select the Multimedia tab and then double-click on the image involved. On the bottom right tick the 'E...

Problem with use of NAME tag

Jane Yes you can if you know you have the problem but my point is that this conflict shouldn't arise and I think should be fixed by Calico Pie.  Aside from anything else, many people wouldn't even be aware that the problem existed.  I've now found this situation in three separate people's GEDCOMs an...

Problem with use of NAME tag

When importing a GEDCOM, Family Historian takes the individual's name and puts it in the NAME tag.  This applies even if the GIVN and SURN tags are in the file.  When it does that it still leaves those two tags in the file.  If at a later time there is a change of name, FH changes the NAME tag but n...

Loading Multimedia on Startup

I've increased the number of images I have and I think as a consequence, the boot time when starting Historian has increased.  I remember there was a topic on this issue a few years ago which I thought had been resolved with a new preference to not load multimedia on start.  I've looked for this thr...

Unmarried parents - child's surname

FH has assigned the father's surname
KSS

You can turn the auto assignment of the father's name off if you want to.  Go to Tools > Preferences > General Tab and untick the 'Insert father's surname when creating children'

CVG Anything I don't want showing on my site, I enclose in double square brackets.  All reports have the option to exclude these when being produced.  On my site, I have pages generated by both Family Historian and GED-GEN.  To handle the latter I export a GEDCOM where again there is an option to ex...

Export GEDCOM

So do NOT tick Exclude all records which are not linked to the selected Individual records. Thanks TW that has done the trick.  I agree that this could be a bug but I'm not sure why this is provided as an option.  I don't know why you would want to do that although there would be a reason.  Certain...

Export GEDCOM

I've recently started using export GEDCOM to produce a GEDCOM which excludes all double square brackets usage. I find that in the resulting file there are no Repositories produced. The same is happening on the file of a friend who also uses FH. I am definitely not ticking the Exclude Repositories bo...
