Narrative reports Carriage return
ChrisBowyer said : 'It is after all meant to be narrative (i.e. in sentences and paragraphs ) not formal like an outline or record detail report.' Chris, To me, that is the very point of redrock's observations; paragraphs the same way you did (twice) in your post. Your suggestion of reformatting is...

On various newsgroups including soc.genealogy.australia+nz this site is being associated with the other dubious site http:// http://www.australian-ancestors.com/contact.asp. While this latter one is aimed at Australians this may be the UK equivalent as well. Apparently they are based in Canada and c...

Snip : 'I think that until relatively recent times (20th century) baptisms usually happened fairly quickly after birth because of the high infant mortality rates' Nick That may be the case in England but certainly not the case in Australia. Baptisms in the towns may have been fairly quick but in the...

I did a test on the parameters you gave and the ribbon only showed up on the Everyone diagram. If you try other types of diagrams based either on an individual or on a family there will be no ribbon although everybody in the database will not be shown. When your database gets much larger you will f...

Editing Diagram Text Scheme
Peter If you use the standard Text Scheme {Birth, Marr, Div, Death} I think this will give you the marriages as you are requesting. Clone this Text Scheme; make other alterations (e.g. maybe remove Divorce, change fonts, etc) and then save as a Custom Text Scheme giving it an unique name. You can th...

These two links show instances of Pirdie being used as a first name so it must have been used but it would seem that it is not that common.

Help with an Irish place name anyone?
Jane
I found this site the other day. It may be of use. All my Irish people come from Clare which hasn't been done yet so I can't say how good it is. I think it might be like an Irish Scotland's People.

Harvey I have a similiar situation. I prepare a report for this relative about once every six months so it's not that often. I make a copy of my file; load this copy into FH; delete the non-required person from the file; produce the report and then delete the copy file. This way it's all done withou...

Richard I notice the distance between generations on your diagram is much smaller than on Daves's. You can change this by clicking on the 'Enable Moving/Resizing' button and then using your mouse, just grab the line connecting all the children and physically move it down. If I've got this right, t...

What other software do you use for Family History?
For anyone interested, Bygones is a free genealogical notekeeping tool based on a database, the details of which can be found at http://home.utah-inter.net/bygones/ Another far simpler tool (also free) is the J & L Genealogy Reference Tool found at http://www.jlplanner.com/gref/ In relation to other...

In the property dialogue, select the 'Detail' tab and halfway down on the right, there is 'Name Suffix'. I hope this is what you want.

I have for some time used the diagram function to generate buttons for use on my site. Additionally I used it to create the icons (Living/Generations) available for download from FHUG. I missed the word 'Source' in your original post. I was commenting on the actual data section of the web pages not the sources. However, the information you have posted is very useful for the time when I may be creating images to match my sources.

How do you get 8 images? My web pages are always only 4 images per row. For me 6 would be great.

Re-instate the diagram ';override text'; f
The 'override text' in diagrams was a very useful facility and I suspect was being used in many ways that Simon may not have envisioned. Its re-instatement would give us back a flexibility which has been lost.
