Filename Suffixes for Backup Types
I would like to request a selectable alternative option be made available to add the various FH Filenames for Backup Types as suffixes rather than prefixes. This would permit all backups of projects of the same name to display in date order, rather than being grouped by alpha, with their type includ...

Hi Jane I note that this Wish List item has been processed, but it does not appear to have been included in the Wish List. This may be because you suggested an alternative solution - TCGR - which I looked at, but unfortunately its solution was fairly basic and bears no comparison to the sophisticate...

Folder/File Path Length
I note that users in both the FHUG and FHU forums have reported problems while upgrading to FH4, which relate to path length. In answer to a recent enquiry in the FHU forum, another user provided the following technical detail from the Microsoft Developer Network: 'Maximum Path Length: In the Window...

As a designer I doubt that Simon would have responded without due thought and consideration, which is what makes me wonder if we are overlooking something. From your and my tests, and unless someone advises otherwise, I believe that Geoff's solution would be to move his project from the default Fami...

Hi Helen Great. I was beginning to think I had a problem with my software install. With reference to your earlier comment 'I'm sure that Simon wouldn't provide the capability to change the default if he didn't expect us to use it', if you read the thread in the other topic that I've mentioned above,...

Hi Helen I'll attempt to clarify. When I upgraded to FH4, I noted that it had installed a Family History Projects folder within the My Documents folder on Drive C:. I use Dive E: for everything related to family history - that is it's sole use. I can create new projects on Drive E by means of the Fi...

Project folders and media files
Geoff There is a currently a relevant discussion in topic 'Project folder' that you may wish to watch. By locating your projects outside of the default Family Historian Projects folder could save you a path length of 25 characters. I have requested clarification of the effects of adopting such a pre...

Thank you for clarifying the intended function of Public folders, Helen. Is that useage detailed somewhere in the FH4 documentation? Apologies if I did not express my enquiry adequately, but I think you missed my point, Nick, I had already found how to store new projects in a location of personal ch...

Further to Mark's comments, I would also appreciate some further detail concerning files and folders relating to FH4. I ran a test upgrade yesterday and have been examining what files and folders FH creates by default and where it locates them. My program is installed on the C: drive, but all my gen...

Hard copy diagrams cross boundary referencing
Hi Jane
You may be recalling my enquiry via v3 forum on 19 March 2009.
Wish List reference 232 - Tracking connections in diagrams - requests some form of colour coding of paths, which is not quite the same, but it may be that my request would provide a solution to that requirement.

Although family history software continues to evolve, providing greater functionality for data and diagram management, options for hard copy presentation of family tree diagrams remain limited to specialist printed large single sheet or home produced multi-sheet formats. Each format has its advantag...

Good morning Jane. Hi Jane. I was expecting to see the download sequence you have described. I've just tried a query download again, but all that happens is a new window opens with the file text displayed. As a double check I selected to download an FH update file and the Save As option appeared without problem. As a ...

Hi Jane. For your information - running IE6 SP1 on Win 2000 SP4 (both with all updates) and FH 2.3.5. As there was no pop-up window offering options to save the file, I had had previously saved the screen contents in both .htm and .txt formats. Following your comments I saved the .txt file - Single%...

Hi all,
When I attempt to download a query, all I get is a new screen displaying the text of the query. Although I could save this, I doubt that it will do anything more than display again if double clicked. Guidance welcomed.

John
