That's great - when I get a chance I'll add this to the guidance in the knowledge base (assuming you're OK with me doing that?).
Please feel free!

Re: Error Message after installing v7.7.0

Hi Nick - Thanks for coming back to me and I understand how you are feeling!
I will have a look at the Norton thing and let you know if it works.
Re BillH's reply, I did try David Potter's suggestion to no avail.
Thanks

Re: Error Message after installing v7.7.0

Hi Nick
I haven't got a Ransomeware problem. Mine is Norton 360. I wondered whether it would be sensible to uninstall AS completely and then reinstall an earlier version? And, yes, I tried to run as adminstrator.
Thanks

Re: Error Message after installing v7.7.0

I tried the Norton 360 suggestion but it has made no difference even though my exe file is OK to go.
When I first tried to install the software, Norton just kept on blocking all the files.
When I tried to make an entry, I couldn't save it at all.
Er, help?!

Re: Surname changes

Thanks Mike and Adrian, Yes, I often come across name changes which are clearly mis-spellings etc and don't fret too much, just make a note. And in answer to Mike's question about alternate names, I have used that for a dodgy great-granny who might have been a bigamist! This is slightly different be...

Re: Surname changes

Thanks for the reply - I'm still working on a system which will make sense to me in the future! I have been looking at original records so I know for sure that the family fluctuated and, in some cases, siblings chose different surnames. I suppose the obvious way is to use their birth surname and the...

Surname changes

Hi all, Once again I am looking for some opinions - I think this is the right place to post my query. It's about name changes (not by deed poll/marriage etc). Basically, how do I record them on FH?? I have the name 'TALLACK' in my tree from Cornwall which goes back several generations. However, now ...

Re: adding notes/media

Thanks for the reply - it pretty much answers every question. I have a lot of original documents/letters/diaries so wanted to have a system in place which would be consistent from the start.

adding notes/media

Hello all, Opinions sought, please! I have some original letters from my grandfather to his mother shortly before he was killed at The Somme. I have scanned the originals (into pdfs), and I have separately transcribed them to a laid-out word document with notes and comments, which I would like to in...

Re: think this is an ancestral sources question

Thank you everyone who has taken the trouble to answer. I have tried the rich-text template and, er, yes that works. In terms of multiple notes, I was slowly going through entries in FH and found it a bit frustrating when I looked at the Facts box and it just said 'Joe Bloggs appeared in the census'...

Re: think this is an ancestral sources question

Hi both, I have just added a census record from 1911 via AS.. This time I clicked on the text box option in AS which brought up all the details. I then went into FH and this time the (unformatted) info is there with the source citation so that's a win. Is there any way I can format so it looks like ...

Re: think this is an ancestral sources question

Hi Mike,
Thanks for reply - and I have updated version as requested!
Yes, I did use AS a few years ago when it was census only and I don't recall having any problems.
Will follow your instructions and come back to you!

think this is an ancestral sources question

After several years away from family history - and, more importantly, the software, - I'm trying to work through all the things which have changed and have found a bit of an issue. I added a census record for a couple in 1911. If I go to either of them in FH, each says they appeared in the census in...

Re: Changed name of project - bit of a mess

Hi both,
Have installed the plug-in, tried it with an entry from the 1911 census and it has worked so all seems to be fine with the world again. All I need is some time to catch up with a box file or two full of entries!
Many thanks

Changed name of project - bit of a mess

Hello, I am a long-time but very intermittent user of FH and AS. Before using your Gedcom system, I used to input census details manually and individually, sometimes downloading the image but not always, then I switched to Gedcom system so rendering my project a bit of a hybrid. I've just installed ...

gedcom census

Apologies if this has been touched on but a search on the above words was unsuccessful. I have just installed newest version of FH plus Ancestral Sources on a new computer. I moved all the FH folders across, without a problem. I had Gedcom Census installed on the old pc, how do I go about copying th...

Parish records update

Just in case this helps anyone, you can also access parish records on http://freereg.rootsweb.com/ This is a free site, run by the same people who do free BMD. I'm a volunteer transcriber for Norfolk and they are always looking for people to assist. It's very much a work in progress and you have to ...

private and living flag

Hello all,  I was playing with my flags and I have accidentally stuck private flags on living people (whom I didn't want to be private).  Is there any way of deleting private flags? I do have some people who are private only and I'd want to keep them as such..  Thanks in advance, Janine   [confused]...

Family Mystery

I had a real family mystery too, where it appeared as if my grandfather had married two different women. Turns out they are one and the same and she was marrying bigamously! She then went on to marry a third time when my grandfather died. She used a combination of different first and last names for ...
