Of the various programs I have used over the years, this is certainly the best. Instead of moaning on at length about things why don't you use the wish list if there is enough support to achieve some of the changes you want.

I am perfectly happy for FH to stick to the gedcom standard having received files from correspondents with lots of odd fields that are a real pain to sort out.

Automatic Repository in new source
I use a standard source for IGI with the repository already in it. I then use this and put the individual details such as the batch number into 'where within source'

Drop down choice in Source entry
I agree, I tend to create a new source then go back and put the source type in (clicking on the ... to get the list of options), as it is awkward when creating a new source from within the Individual record

Are you sure it is the same man? Could he have had a cousin with the same name who was having children at the same time? Remember marriages usually took place in the bride's parish so perhaps you need to look further afield.

Place levels in FH
In Tools, Work with Data, Places, click on the button called columns, you can add another column (or more) so you can add the country at the end of each place, so you would have Hudspath, Elsdon, Northumberland, England
My addresses include house and street, the rest is the place

Place levels in FH
The house number and street are classed as the address. The place can be entered as Hudspath, Elsdon, Northumberland. If you download the free demo version you can enter a few places (next to bmd or baptism/burial entries) and then look at Tools, Work with Data, Places. I'm not sure of Gedcom Census...

Can someone tell me how to insert a column to show the'Repository' which has been linked to a source. I already have a column for multimedia but I can't see repository on the list of available items when I go into the configure columns.

I use a freeware program called GEDXLATE which converts a gedcom file to excel format. I use Excel to make lists of queries to take to Record Offices.

I found details of a publican ancestor in Norwich at http://www.norfolkpubs.co.uk/index.htm
there may be similar websites for other counties. I found it by googling the ancestor's name.

It could be Nun, but without seeing the rest of the page and having other examples of the letter in question that is just a guess.

I assume you have been looking on IGI, but have you also checked http://www.familyhistoryonline.net the Federation of FHS website. They often have entries that are not covered by IGI.

Split tree helper might be a bit clunky sometimes, but I have always found it easy to use, and I am no programmer. If I am only sending limited information I have often used a diagram including the BMD dates and census entries and emailed the saved diagram to correspondents. It is ideal if you are j...

Age on death / burial
The age next to the burial event is to record the age shown in the burial register, before 1837 this is the only record of age at the time of death. FH should be able to record it. I always record the dates given on documents such as marriage or death certificates even if I know they are incorrect, ...

I have a few 'unrelated' people in my tree too. Some of our ancestors came from a tiny village in Bedfordshire and there are about 5 families in the village who seem to have intermarried over the generations, I included them all in my tree simply because it was easier and less confusing in the long ...

I'm no expert but I would say it is more likely to be 1920s or early 1930s, based on the general style but in particular the bride's headdress.

BMD tip name = MALE or FEMALE
Several of our Campling ancestors were recorded as 'Male' or 'Female' Campling. In some cases birth certificates were modified when a name was chosen, but the index was not necessarily updated. The ones I know about all survived to adulthood.
