puzzling 1871 Census record

I have often come across a family where the husband is not present and the first name in the household is the 'wife', in some cases the husband was a seaman and was probably at sea on the night of the census. My husbands great-gran...

1911 Census
I reported some errors on the 1911 census and these are two of the replies I got (bear in mind they were on the same page in the same household) 1) Record Description: BELL WILLIAM (RG14PN31034 RG78PN1776 RD564 SD3 ED1 SN404) Field: birthplace Original: ASHINGTON NORTHERLAND Suggestion: ashington NO...

Spouse name
Do you think
INDI.~SPOU[who is my ancestor]>NAME[1]
would make it on to the wishlist - wouldn't it be convenient.

Spouse name
I have set up the Records window to show the spouse name, but in some cases the individual has been married more than once and it is always the first spouse name that appears, not necessarily the one I am interested in. I know I can re-order the spouse details so the correct name appears, but then t...

I think we need a new How To demo to show us all how to do the Flags tab bit. I made a mess of it when I tried.

OK I have replaced the flag on the individual records - but how do I get rid of the old flag to make sure I don't use it again by mistake?

Yes that's right. You have to fill in a message form and give a reason for using a different computer before they unlock you - it is like being back in infant school.

1911 Census
I have had to search as follows county of residence = Northumberland and forget about place of birth as they are such a mess. Unfortunately it gives you a lot of results so where possible give an additional name in the household. I am rather cross as I have wasted a lot of credits. I am only doing t...

After waiting months for Northumberland, Durham and Cumberland to be available I have spent a few frustrating hours trying to find my family born and living in Northumberland. Would you believe it has been transcribed as NORTHERLAND - no wonder there were so few matches !

So far I am finding it very cheap since Northumberland, Durham and Cumberland are not included. The great North-South divide appears to have been backdated to 1911

You could also attach it to the Occupation event as a source, or if you have a source already for the occupation you could attach the photo to that

Click on the Sources tab on the record window, find the one you have misnamed, click on it to open it and type over the title.

I was disillusioned with the genealogist because I paid a year's subscription and then found it did not include everything. I joined to use the ships crews and they were not in the inclusive package. I did complain and they said they would review the way it was advertised, but I am not inclined to g...
