Re: Upgrade to the forums here

Finally for now, can the' Members' list be initially sorted on one of the columns? It always has been, and still is, random initially, but perhaps better is sorted on 'Username' or 'Joined'. Not sure about this they always appear in Joined date order when I open the list, it's just the imported one...

Re: Upgrade to the forums here

The answer is no, you can't revert to the original theme as it isn't available in the new version of the underlying software (which was also upgraded this weekend to maintain supportability). I know Jane looked at the options but it wasn't possible. (I suspect although she hasn't said that it was a ...

Re: Key Repositories?

Sorry, but life's too short. Each to her own... but it sounds like Rootsmagic has provided templates without any guidance (which is a recipe for disaster! or at the least turning people off the approach). Have you read the book? Or looked at Shown Mills' website: https://www.evidenceexplained.com/ ...

Re: Key Repositories?

To be clear, I construct my long source title according to Evidence Explained (modified as necessary for practicality and/or local quirks) so don't use any of the limited fields provided in the GEDcom standard (and thus FH) for Repository, Author, Publication Info -- all of that goes in the long tit...

Re: Recording Source Author, Type & Publication Informatio i

Of course, the source shouldn't be "UK census" but "England and Wales Census" or "Scotland Census" etc. as they're distinct document sets, so you could still have your auto-repository.... which I would turn off immediately (for all sorts of reasons I won't go into here but in summary: I use Elizabet...

Re: Better formatting of report tables for web publication

A variant on Mike's suggestion does the trick for me: div.fhSourceData td { padding: 10px 10px; } div.fhSourceData tr { border-bottom: 1px solid #efeff0;} div.fhSourceData tr:last-child { border:none; } I only use Individual Summary Reports, and I automate some processing after the website generatio...

Re: Better formatting of report tables for web publication

I've the start of a solution by adding a faint dividing line and some white space between the rows of the table: td { border-bottom: 1px solid #efeff0; padding: 10px 10px; } I'd like to remove the last dividing line at the bottom of the table but td:last-child { border-bottom: none; } removes the li...

Re: Better formatting of report tables for web publication

Thanks for the suggestion, Mike. It might be something to fall back on if nothing else works, but I'm instinctively wary about relying on special textual input conventions unless there's no better solution. I'm going to have a poke around at css (never my favourite chore) to see what I can achieve t...

Better formatting of report tables for web publication

The Individual Summary Report produces output for use in a web site that relies heavily on tables. However, if you're including a lot of information (e.g. for Source details, the source title, the text from the source and source notes) the information in the same table column for the same item isn't...

Re: Error with help in Improve Website CD or DVD HTML plugin

Not a new PC -- originally Windows 8/8.1 and then upgraded to 10 as soon as it became available -- I'd been trialling the Beta version on a less important PC for some time and was happy to upgrade my main machine -- and helpfully updated by Microsoft at random intervals thereafter. Have not installe...

The version of IE installed on my PC is 11.498.10586.0 and I also don't get the error if I open the page directly in IE.

Where do I find the version FH is using?

http://www.boxifier.com/ . Lets you save any folder to DropBox. One folder is free. (You can use the more manual 'symlink'-type facilities if you wish but I'm lazy). Like you, I now only use OneDrive for OneNote -- I pay for DropBox even though I get a gazillionbytes of storage in OneDrive because ...

Re: connection not secure

Not sure why you'd expect a secure connection or encryption etc. on a site like this -- it's not as if you're providing financial data or even personal data... And Jane's info is readily available at the bottom of the page or via her profile -- what other ownership/identity info do you expect?

Re: Display problems in Windows 10

In my experience a number of 'older' products have problems with a HD screen (such as I have on my laptop but not my desktop). FH5 was one of them, so I was pleased to see it worted in FH6. Scrivener (writing package that some other family historians use) is another but I have a potential fix to try...

Re: Problems with census searches on Findmypast [Solved]

I think FMP may default to "lowest common denominator" if you try to search multiple recordsets at once (or to display the results) -- not all recordsets have same data/indexed data so they have to simplify if they're dealing with (e.g.) all the censuses at once including (e.g.) 1841 which has much ...

Search > A-Z of record sets > pick the record set (you can narrow them down using the search box at the top of the record set list) > hey presto, a better search form.

Re: Problems with census searches on Findmypast

I always select the relevant record set (census) first rather than just searching censuses so I get a search screen that included date of birth.
