Re: Change Media type from Citation to Individual
Why do you want to change them? Images of source documents in FH are usually attached to a Source or a Citation, not to an Individual, unless somebody is choosing not to use Sources and Citations at all (which has its drawbacks but works for some people). If you decide you do want to change them, th...

Re: Splitting imported place names
Almost certainly, the author of that plugin will be along soon with chapter and verse. However, FH expects comma delimited places (because Gedcom does), so I'm not sure why you think you need to split them?

Re: Can FH tell the differance between no surname and unknown surname
I’m unfamiliar with the notation, “ap.” What is the meaning in the following context: 1 NAME Thomas ap Owen // Welsh: son of, or more latterly, child of. I have a Jane Parry (Jane ap Harry) marrying in Caernarfonshire in 1858. Her father was Harry Prichard or Pritchard, and she reverted to the surn...

Re: Addresses
I'm not sure these work quite so well: "On 15 Apr 1910 his occupation was given as Ag[ricultural] Lab[ourer] in Clarinda, Iowa." "On 15 Apr 1910 her occupation was given as Unpaid Domestic Duties in Clarinda, Iowa." I can't see anything wrong with those, if you're reporting what was said rather tha...

Re: Addresses
Some users like the Occupation to be analysed using consistent attribute values. Users also like the Narrative sentence in reports to be reasonable. And some users don't use Narrative reports, or spend any time analysing data across individuals. Those users will possibly be reassured that they don'...

Re: Addresses
I do the same as John -- enter it exactly as in the source. For Ag. Lab., I'd enter Ag[ricultural] Lab[ourer] to make it clear what was present in the source and what is my interpretation of what is present. After all, Ag. Lab. covers a multitude of occupations, so we may not know exactly what it is...

Re: Does one use muktiple sources for same event?
As you surmised, I was using tertiary in the sense of a copy of a copy of the original, but maybe, as Adrian says, that isn't the right or best term to use. Apologies if I've confused anyone. We all have different terminology, derived from different experiences/education. I doubt you or I have conf...

Re: Does one use muktiple sources for same event?
In fact a GRO certificate may even be a tertiary source: I'd call a GRO certificate a derivative source (a copy of an original, or as you point out, possibly a copy of a copy of the original) with a mix of primary and secondary information , e.g. primary information about an individual's death (dat...

Re: Does one use muktiple sources for same event?
Should have picked up this when you said it -- why do you treat the GRO marriage index citation a separate source to the Parish Register entry when there isn't a separate marriage certificate created by a registrar for CoE marriages? Arguably, it is a separate source, as the GRO Certificate is not ...

Re: Does one use multiple sources for same event?
Helen, I think we are talking at cross purposes. Of course I transcribe the images and add the relevant details into FH. What I no longer do is add another source that references another transcription from anywhere else! i.e. if I get a burial image, I delete the source that tells me I also found t...

Re: Does one use muktiple sources for same event?
Agree - that’s exactly what I said 11 posts up the thread . If I locate the original image, I make my own transcription, and discard other finding aids and transcriptions that cite the same source (unless the document is difficult to read, as in your example). I think I was led off track by the ref...

Re: Does one use multiple sources for same event?
Helen, May I refer you to my original post in which I was referring to parish register images of Baptisms, Marriages and Burials and their transcriptions Other images, like manoral rolls and wills are a different kettle of fish :D I don't think so -- I have Baptisms/Burials in Welsh, Marriage recor...

Re: Does one use multiple sources for same event?
Helen, I was really talking about images and their transcriptions, which shouldn't contradict each other, but if they do, then image is deemed to be true and Transcription wrong (which I tend to report to relevant site). i.e why keep an Image and a transcription of the same image? I refer my learne...

Re: Does one use multiple sources for same event?
I record every source that I find for a fact, even the contradictory ones. You never know when something will show up that throws into question a previous conclusion and you need to reassess everything you've seen for that 'fact' to date. For example, you may have a birth certificate giving a partic...

I usually find OneDrive very reliable, except for the problem I reported at Unexpected conflicted copy in OneDrive (21004), which is probably unrelated.

Re: New Video: All about sources in Family Historian
Trevor, I envy you if all your sources are easily readable, so you don't have to bother transcribing them (to save yourself the trouble of puzzling them out repeatedly. How would your method deal with this (which is an actual source in a friend's tree)? Screenshot 2023-03-15 100932.jpg How would som...

Re: Family Historian Activation Login
In addition to the Windows 7 updates (or lack of them) being a problem, I believe there is an incompatibility between the network protocols that W7 supports and the protocols implemented in later versions of Windows (including I suspect the CP servers, and Microsoft Automatic Update servers). Re: Family Historian Activation Login
Obviously no new updates have been produced for ages, but are you sure that old ones have been withdrawn? It may be possible to download and install them all manually, from the Microsoft Update catalog, but good luck deciding which ones to install out of the more than 1000 items listed. SP1 would b...
