Re: Questions relating to transitioning from RM9 to FH7

1) RootsMagic has the concept of “copying and pasting” a source, or alternatively, “reusing” one. I believe the best way to describe the difference is that one can independently edit the former resulting citations, whereas in the latter changing one changes all. Does FH7 have the same concept? How ...

Re: Questions relating to transitioning from RM9 to FH7

Unlike RM9, FH7 has no built-in Copy Source record option, but there are plugins that can do that. Not quite right -- there is the Clone option if you select the source within ASC. The Essentials - Website template is Lumper oriented because two key fields are Citation-specific. However, that isn't...

Re: Having an issue getting full place name during Geocoding

Gary, yes, Google Maps needs a credit card. Eh? I use google maps as a gazeteer all the time, and apart from logging in to my account, I don't have to subscribe or pay. And as far as I'm aware I have never given it my credit card details - I'd draw the line at that! The credit card is needed to use...

Re: Interesting use of AI

Adrian, i read that newsletter with interest and had already seen other reports of facts being plucked out of thin air with fictitious references cited to support them. The article i linked too here (or it may have been one of the associted articles) describes the lengths you have to go to to force ...

Re: Travel

Why can't someone set up a separate fact for travel? Mike Tate has already pointed you to the example you need to create your own fact: Show Fact Fields in the Property Box You will need to adjust the name and label to be Travelled, and modify the sentence templates to reflect that. Do you want to ...

Re: Having an issue getting full place name during Geocoding

However, the Google Maps geocoding still works fine and correctly plotted 'Somme-Tourbe, Département de la Marne, Champagne-Ardenne, France' in exactly the correct location. Which is excellent news, as I use the plugin in preference to the built in alternative. However, it currently only works if t...

For my (non-existent) money, the Geocoding used by the "Map Life Facts" plug-in is better than the "native" Geocoder accessed by the FH Map Window.
Was better, alas. I don't believe it works since Msoft withdrew support for IE -- at least, it doesn't work for me.

But if you have edited a fact sentence to be simply {note}, and nothing else, you now get a full stop at the beginning of the note! So even a whole sentence note has to be treated a {inline-note} in this case.
Has that been reported as a bug?

Re: Fact Note Sentence issue (TMG Imported template)

Yes, as we have both said, all users have been affected by this change. Not those of us whose understanding of the English language led us from the beginning to treat {note} as a set of sentences. We may be a minority but i suspect we"re a large minority. Plus there are the userd who have never med...

Re: Fact Note Sentence issue (TMG Imported template)

I'm away from my pc but if you search the forums you'll find a discussion about the difference between {note} which is assumed to be one or more complete sentences, so gets a full stop before it and {inline-note} which is assumed to be a text fragment and doesn't get punctuation added.

Re: Travel

The first option seems more clear to me. Is it possible to use the emigration type and adapt it to Travel without losing the original emigration fact? No. Adapting it to Travel overrides the Emigration Fact, so you can only have one of Travel and Emigration available. (Plus Immigration, of course)....

Re: Templates, titles, and footnotes

Should we include a link to the group in the KB? Derek posted about the group in Groups.io recently, but Helen cut the discussion and locked the thread. It gives the impression that we do not welcome competition, but shouldn't we embrace it as a new tool for FH users? There are a number of video re...

it would be nice if GEDCOM had a simple place or location fact with associated date,
Like the Residence fact? Although you would still need to decide how long stopping in one place qualified as a residence.

Is this really necessary? The only way to get from A to B is to travel! Re: Travel

There is no way to create a custom fact that has a To: and From: place; unfortunately, those are restricted to the Immigration and Emigration facts. My way around this depends on not using both Immigration and Emigration, as they are two sides of the same coin... I use Emigration for the intended pu...

Re: Two wives but they're the same person

It sounds as if you have two family records for the same couple; check using the Families tab in the Records Window. (Use View > Other Records List > Families if the Families tab is not showing in the Records Window).

Correcting Duplicate Spouses/Families explains how to fix it.

Re: Issues with upgrading to V7 from V6 on Mac with Crossover

Have been thinking about this. One way around the settings issue might be: Create a new Windows 10 bottle with Crossover (FH7 needs Windows 10, and your FH6 bottle is Windows 7]) Install FH 6 in that Windows 10 bottle (it may not run perfectly but you only need to restore settings using it.) Use the...

Re: Change Media type from Citation to Individual

Why do you want to change them? Images of source documents in FH are usually attached to a Source or a Citation, not to an Individual, unless somebody is choosing not to use Sources and Citations at all (which has its drawbacks but works for some people). If you decide you do want to change them, th...
