Re: Kent Family History Society (KFHS) copyright breach!
As you say, facts cannot be copyrighted, but there may be a breach of the contractual terms under which KFHS made the material available.

Re: No-text notes
Those notes as 'Local notes' (as per the type column), i.e. notes associated only with the Individual or Family concerned and not capable of being shared with other records, so they are not visible in the Notes tab in the Records window (whoich showed Shared -- or shareable -- Notes). To delete one,...

Re: Is it time to split the General Forum?
However; I've previously used systems in which users have included a hashtag line in their actual posts, so that one could search on some previously admin-suggested list of tags (with explanation of their intended content). That actually worked pretty well. That could work for regular participants ...

Is it worth including that clarification in the KB article you wrote about Standard Report Types, Mike?

Re: Advisability of changing Census Roles from default options
Gary, Part of the 'problem' is that there are many valid ways to achieve the same end-result using FH; which is 'best' depends upon the priorities of the person asking the question, and how much they're willing to configure (and in some case, 'torture' the configuration of) FH, and whether they want...

Re: Is it time to split the General Forum?
does not merit merging the Plugins ... Forum into the General Usage Forum. I made a proposal back in January that we should merge part of the plugins forum into the General and Importing/Exporting forums! https://fhug.org.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=42&t=21445&start=25#p133120 I wonder if anyone else ...

Re: Is it time to split the General Forum?
It should be easier for users to find discussions relevant to their problem and may even find a solution without needing to post a question. Easier than using the Search facilities? Plus that presupposes a user knows which capability in FH contains the answer to 'How can I do X?' 'How do others do ...

Re: Is it time to split the General Forum?
I have for a long time been in favour of more forums on particular subjects. We already have Plugin Discussions, Importing and Exporting, and Ancestral Sources. Re: Is it time to split the General Forum?
The forum software doesn't support tags, neither for classification of topics nor marking 'the best answer'/'the answer that solved the problem for the OP'/whatever. Re topics that become overly discursive/technical, we do (as a group) have a tendency to put forward multiple solutions to many questi...

Re: Is it time to split the General Forum?
it is the age old problem, "where do you draw the line". That's my main concern -- in the KB we've allowed things to be tagged with any or all of Advanced, Intermediate and New User, because most topics span more than one skill level. That approach won't work with forums, however. Specialist topic ...

Re: A question of presentation
Are you primarily interested in paper-based 'publication' or web-based or both. If web-based, you could (depending on how you generate your website) have the word document as a media file and provide a link to click to view it.

Re: Inconsistent record Id for source templates??
However, you can add a Note &/or a Reference that don't seem to have any particular purpose. So the Reference could effectively hold a 'Custom Id'. I was wary of suggesting the Reference field as it could get confused with a Reference metafield in the same source template. Note might be the safer o...

Re: Inconsistent record Id for source templates??
It would be nice to be able to generate a Unique ID for Source templates that are being provided, no matter if you delete them. For some reason, you can't assign a Custom ID to a Source Template record as you can to e.g. Individual Records. You might want to ask Calico Pie if it's something they're...

Re: Inconsistent record Id for source templates??
The Source Templates are numbered in the order you add them to your project. Record IDs aren't r4eused, so if you remove templates and then add others, ypu'll find gaps in the numbering as well (just as ypu would for Individual and Family Record IDs). . Are your projects on laptop and desktop synchr...

Re: Version 7.0.20 Released
In the meantime, people wanting to use the Sample Project for more than short-lived tests could do what I do -- I include it in my Projects folder, and thus in my daily backup schedule, so if I cared about any changes CP makes, I could restore my copy (perhaps even merge it if I wanted to include CP...

Re: Version 7.0.20 Released
I agree it should be clearer that the data will be replaced by every upgrade, but understand that CP might (one day) want to release an upgrade to the sample project showcasing some of the new features.

Re: Version 7.0.20 Released
From the Help file: Use the sample project as a learning tool only. You can make changes to it if you wish, to try out new features you're not sure about (in fact, it's a good idea to do this),but do not store your own data in it. It's repeated in a few places in the Help File, but mostly where new ...

Re: Version 7.0.20 Released
The first project I looked at was the sample project. Does installing an FH update reset that? I'd added quite a lot of test data for something I'm working on to the sample project and it has all disappeared. I'm pretty sure an upgrade does reset the sample project. Do you have a backup of your cha...

I'm planning a total re-do within the next 12 months, to take full advantage of the new facilities that V7 offers (once I've written the plugins I personally need to streamline creating sources, individuals and facts based on the information within a source (the same job AS does, but there are some ...

Re: Source & media naming
Gary, yes that workflow would be possible. However, are you intending to re-do the fact creation as well? If so, AS would be the way to go [[Nick Walker falls off his chair
]] as it's currently the best option for streamlining creation of sources, linking them to media and creating the facts.
