Reinstalling FH
I have the same task. I shall be transfering from version 2.3 to the same on the new machine. I intend to use the settings and files transfer - will that transfer the FH settings?

Unconfirmed links
Thanks very much for the suggestion - it is an interesting though. It doesn't seem to do what I had in mind. The linking works quite well but the point is that the supposed relationship is very tentative. For the present I have just added a note in my file that refers to a possible relationship. It ...

Thanks - this is the sort of route I probably would have decided on. I'll certainly plat around with your suggestions (and have a go at confirming the link!)

Unconfirmed links
I have a supposed related family tree as a seperate file. We think there is a link between two individuals as siblings or cousins.
I do not need (or want) to merge the files. Is there a way to show the suspected relationship?

Health
Is 'Health' a standard tag in GEDCOM? How should one enter a health property? It sometimes seems sensible to call it an event (diagnosis of a permanent condition) but then it is an attribute! Entered in a custom 'Health' attribute it is not recognised in an external data handling source, such as Gen...

Merging two people
I just received from a relation what was said to be some corrections to my records. My file is of 872 individuals and 287 families, and this new GEDCOM file was of 96 individuals and 27 families. There were only two or three new individuals in the new file, which seemed to be in GEDCOM 4.0. Most of ...

Dear Simon,
I didn't seem to have the picture display problem, but is comforting to know that I can get a fix.

2.2.3 Released
The usual set of significant improvements. I look forward to exploring them.
It is so nice to get free upgrades, after my previous genealogy program which offered upgrades at considerable cost.

Customisable properties dialog
Having upgraded to version 2.2 I have realised that the detail page on the individual properties dialog is not customisable. I should like to be able to replace some of the fields with others.[frown]

2.2 Released
I seem to have been amongst the first to download the 2.2 update. I am impressed with the many improvements. It will take a while to used and try them all, but I have looked through most of them. Things that struck me as important improvements were · Load time checks and file validation. · Auto comp...

GedHTree
I downloaded GedHTree and hit a problem with translating from my GEDCOM data file to HTML. I did not correctly transferring marriage details to the HTML file. I get the entries and , instead of the correct data. There is an option in FH (under preferences) to save Family records before Individual re...

Printing the manual
I have recently downloaded a program called FinePrint. It is a Windows printer driver that provides advanced printing capability. Among its features are: print 2, 4, or 8 pages on a single sheet double sided printing, booklets plus a number of others. In the context of printing a manual such as that...

I think I had already decided a spreadsheet was the way foward, but thanks for the tips. I downloaded an Access database called 'bygones' (http://www.bygonessoftware.com), but it seems rather too complicated and is US based.

Deleting custom events/attributes
Is there a way of deleting a custom event (not just data) and removing it as an event? Would all the records have to be emptied?
I have wrongly specified as a custom event an item that ought to be an attribute.

Notes Pages - Migrating from FTM to FH
I have recently transfered my records from FTM v10. As far as I can see the notes (some of them very long) are intact. There are some formatting problems (word run together). I have corrected most of these by copying the text to Word, correcting there, in replacing the original.

Pocket PC Software
I have been using 'My Roots' from Tapperware (http://www.tapperware.com) for a few years, on Palm OS platforms. It is now up to version 3.00. It is a useful pocket record of ones data, and data can be changed or entered in the field. Records are then marked as changed and manual update is necessary ...

Should I switch to FH?
I really should realise that mostly features I think are missing are to be found. Between sending my mail and receiving your reply, I had sorted out the sources report, which of course can be configured to produce anything you want! I'll try and look before I leap into queries![cry]

Should I switch to FH?
I have been using Family Tree Maker, having switched to that from Generations, which does not work properly with Windows XP, Transfering pictures (I have a lot too!) was the worst pain. Having done that for many of my sources, can I list the sources with the pictures. Would a custom query be the way?

Printing the manual
When I originally got ver 2.0 of FH, I printed the whole manual - lots of paper and time, although it was two sided.
I have just downloaded the version 2.1 manual - it seems very similar but is it worth printing again?
