I have received two copies of the newsletter sent on 15th April. Is my name perhaps duplicated on the list?

V3 Issues and bugs and FAQs
I have saved a couple of charts as *.fhc files, and opened some successfully. However a couple give me the message 'not a family history chart'. Am I doing something stupid?

Version 3 - nbsp;Questions
Living abroad I had to be rather patient and my upgrade disk only arrived yesterday. I have hardly left FH since then. The improvements are so much part of the program, I can hardly remember the features that were not available earlier. The diagram improvements are most impressive. I am just getting...

Surname options
Thanks very much, Jane, for the usual speedy reply! It is amazing how we forget how unforgiving instructions at the command prompt can be! I put GEDCAPS and my copy GEDCOM data file in one directory and ran the program from there as you suggest. Hey presto the change was made instantly! Thanks again...

Surname options
Is there a way to reverse the option to display surnames in upper case? Altering the option has no effect. The only reference I can find is to GEDCAPS, which I downloaded but I can't get to work (on a copy of my gedcom file!)

missing photographs
I have just tidied up the source of my photographs (using 'work with data') and ended up with a few missing pictures. I found that if I browsed back to the source when the picture could not be found, and opened the picture, the problem was corrected. The situation arose in some of the cases because t...

Announcing Family Historian 3
I have just been re-reading the new features in version 3. Only encouraged my impatience to get my hands on it! It is obviously delayed, but when can we expect it?

Just to note, if you need a CD before version 3 of FH is available, that GEDMill Pro 1.6 creates autorun CD's automatically.[smile]

GedStar Pro ver 3
Version 3.1b1 in beta has just been sent to me. This has specifically been designed to handle FH files among other improvements. There may be still some small problems and I'll report further!

GedStar Pro ver 3
I have been using GedStar Pro v2 to keep my FH records on a Palm PDA. I have just upgraded to version 3 (a free upgrade), which supports pictures on the Palm. I found that using my FH GEDCOM file I didn't get picture support! A query posted to the supplier produced an immediate response, and after s...

GEDMill 1.4 Released
See my forum comment in the General area GEDMill. I found the Pro version very impressive and easy to use. It is certainly my prefered program among the several I have tried.

GEDMill
I am returning to comment on GEDmill again because I have just downloaded GEDmill 1.4 Pro.
This is an enhanced version featuring extra customisation options, and the ability to add tree diagrams to each page.
The results are really very good with a minimum amount of effort.

As a long time user of FH, I read these postings and wondered if I ought to look at alternatives! I downloaded the demo version of Legacy just to see. The Legacy user interface is very nice and pretty simple, but when you really get down to the flexibility of the program I think FH wins hands down. ...

Changing File Locations
I have changed my computer and the path to my data is changed. The file links are still showing the old path (marked with a cross as invalid of course), as well as the correct one for the new machine. Can I delete the reference to the old path all together?

PALM Based Software
I have been trying three programs on my Palm, in addition to MY Roots. 1. GedWise $17.99 ($4.99 for updates) 2. GedStar $13.95 (updates free) 3. GedStar Pro $29.95 All have a free trial period. All three are a lot faster than MyRoots. The significant difference is in the supported events and attribu...

I have been using MY ROOTS first on a Palm M515 and now on a TunstenE. I have been looking at some alternatives after seeing a paper by Jay Sage of the Jewish Genealogical Society of Greater Boston. The review covers My Roots, Gedwise and GedStar. I have tried all three and added GedStar Pro to the ...

posting fh to web
I am surprised no-one has mentioned GedHTree, which is reasonably easy to set up and produces quite a nice result. I have tried GedMill (The Logic Mill) - see my comment in the last subject here. It does depend on what you want as an output - GedMill is a simple but clear result.

I recently downloaded GEDMill version 1.0. I was disappointed to find it would not work on my biggest FH file with lots of embedded pictures. After an exchange of emails with the author he put his finger on the problem and version 1.1 available since 28th Feb 2005 handles the file perfectly. The out...

Correcting picture linkages on fresh install
I have install FH afresh on on new machine and restored my data from a backup successfuly. My pictures were in a directory which does not exist on my new machine. They are all intact in a new folder, but changing the address on the link does not seem to work.
Any suggestions?
