Re: upgrade to 6.1and reports
Further to the above, I now find my Records page has lost the column for spouse's name. This is so useful when several family members have identical names. I can't find the option to add this column - is it no longer available under the data options?

upgrade to 6.1and reports
I went to print a report on one of my ancestors but FH prompted me to upgrade first to the new version which I happily did. I wish I hadnt! I don't know if it is just me or what, but the report I wanted is now listed under Publish rather than reports and the Group Family Sheet and Individual Sumary ...

Re: Photo upside down
I'm still not sure what I am doing but I downloaded Irfanview and rotated it and it is now in FH the right way up. Thanks!

Re: Photo upside down
Thank you. I see I have to work on it. If memory serves me right it was sent to me by a cousin in an email and arrived upside down so I had rotated it in Windows but obviously only for viewing it on my computer. Why is life never straight forward?

Photo upside down
I have installed the new v6 but am a bit rusty on how to do everything after a long gap. Basically I want to tidy up my existing records before I do any new research. I have added a photo successfully to one record but a second one turns itself upside down and I can see no way to make it go the righ...

Re: New computer with Windows 10
I should have added that the product key I have found is for version3 and I can't do an upgrade anyway until I have FH back on my hard drive.

Re: New computer with Windows 10
I have decided to go for the full version 6 download after all. I had the original version 2 with update disc for v3 , but also needed a CD backed install at that time, then downloads for upgrading to v4 and it is so convoluted I can't cope with it. For a few pounds extra on top of the cost of an up...

Re: New computer with Windows 10
It was a complete shambles what happened to me but I only have myself to blame for thinking I had all the backups I would need when I actually didn't. To move on, I certainly do have the original registration key but I am not sure how I go about using it to upgrade to version 6 (I like the idea thou...

Re: Windows 10 and FH v4.1.3
Thanks for your replies to both of my posts. I won't post any more here after this but will concentrate on the newer thread. I wanted to just answer you first, though. I know, I know, I know .. I am kicking myself for my stupidity in not checking everything throughly first. I had already upgraded my...

New computer with Windows 10
I want to update my FH records and basically start all over again and my question is whether to buy a CD installation of the newest Family Historian version or buy it as a download? I had the original programme on CD and after that various downloaded updates and CDs too but feel I want to start all ...

Re: Windows 10 and FH v4.1.3
Thanks again for your prompt reply and the link. Interesting reading. I have decided to try updating my old-ish laptop to Windows 10 and see what happens. My PC is more precious so I will wait a while with that.

Re: Windows 10 and FH v4.1.3
Thanks for reply. Have updated to show my version. Will think carefully about Windows 10. Also wondering if there is any chance FH will have a version compatible with Apple computers as I may get a new one soon - or even ipad as I have one of those?

Windows 10 and FH v4.1.3
Hi, I am trying to return to my research after a traumatic couple of years in my life when I abandoned it all. I have FH v4 and my PC has Windows7. I want to upgrade to Windows 10 but don't know if Family Historian will still work. Can anyone help please? Obviously I will take backups of all files.

Thank you for your responses, Jane. I am a bit disappointed it isn't as straightforward as I had hoped and I feel somewhat out of my depth. I did download SyncBack but couldn't get my head round it all and promptly uninstalled it, thinking I could just share the folders between the 2 computers. Back...

New Network
After a lot of gratefully received help from here when I bought my new laptop, I have progressed well and have reached the stage where my son-in-law has set up a network for me between my desktop and laptop. I know I can share folders in the Shared (desktop XP) and Public (laptop Vista)folders and I...

Thank you both very much (for the patience as well as the info). I shall start off with the 'copy to file' option and later on look into the sync one as my file gets bigger with more media being added. [smile]

Oh dear! I am in a muddle now and need someone very patient, please, to explain to me step by step how to sync my FH files between laptop and desktop. I read up on SyncBackSE but it sounds a bit complicated and I am not sure if it means you have to have an external hard drive plugged in every time y...

Thanks for the tips. I have an external hard drive so I shall make sure I keep regular backups anyway. I have never had to sync anything before so need to find out a bit more first. I have used a memory stick to transfer my project folder across to the laptop but haven't a clue what I do once I have...

Thank you Jane - all seems fine now I have found my disc. I do have another question though re the laptop. When I purchased it I was told I can have a free upgrade to Windows 7 in October. Will Family Historian automatically work with Windows 7? If I understand it correctly I will have to re-install...

I am trying to set up a new laptop which I want to use for my Family Historian but I don't know where to start with installing it on there. V4 nbsp;- upside down text
I agree the text was mirror image rather than upside down. Any news on when there will be a fix? 16 bit colour is ok for looking on screen but I print quite a lot of photos and it is a nuisance having to keep changing to 32 bit and back again.

Thanks so much (yet again) Jane. I must say I am loving the new version now I am not so nervous of using it and I'll have a go at those links.
