WW2 identity cards
My Nan's WW2 identity card was amongst her possessions when she died. It details her name, address and signature along with every address she lived at after the war. The family moved four times altogether and all of the address details are listed along with a date stamp for each time the card was up...

I used to use Norton, but gave up on it a few years ago, as it seemed to cause more problems than it solved Jane I'm so glad that you said this about Norton as I have found the same. Even when I uninstalled it there were still lots of files to do with Norton on my PC that I struggled to get rid o...

Transferring Data to a new computer
Thanks for your help Jane, I found the custom queries and was able to transfer them over to my laptop in one go. Thanks also to RalfOfAmber and Nick for telling us where they should be filed on Windows Vista (I actually think that Program Data is a better name for the file than Application Data). ...

Thanks for your reply Jane, but I still couldn't find the files. I have exported the queries as RalfofAmber suggested.
Thanks to both of you for your help.

Transferring Data to a new computer
Jane I've just transferred all of my Family Historian data to a new laptop running Windows Vista. It all went very smoothly and I thought I'd cracked it completely when I realised that my all of my custom queries have not been transferred. I have checked all of the folders within Documents and Setti...

Surname when widow is head of household
If I create a new census record in Gedcom Census 5.3, where a widowed female is the head of the household, the autotext carries through her maiden name as her surname. Is it possible to get it to use the surname of her last husband? Hi Jeremy I have actually changed the autotext within Gedcom Cen...

Where do you stop..........
I always find it interesting to add the parents, brothers and sisters of my ancestors' spouses to my family tree. This helps me to find out what their lives were like, and how they lived can also play a big part in what happens to my ancestors. The problem is I end up with people in my tree who are...

Gedcom census and Multimedia links
Nick Walker said: Gedcom Census isn't recording the necessary Link/Note reference to allow the column reference OBJE.NOTE2 to work. It is easy to fix for the next version. Hopefully I'll be able to get this link added to any images records already created by Gedcom Census. Hi Nick Will the new upda...

IE7
I upgraded to IE7 but there were still security loopholes so I have now installed Firefox which is much more secure. I would recommend Firefox over IE any day but I keep IE7 to hand just in case. Jane, I haven't found any problems viewing BMD images on Ancestry, in fact they seem to load even quicke...

Search for a Street in Census?
Hi David You could try http://www.1837online.com They have the complete census information for 1861 & 1891 and are currently in the process of transcribing the 1841 and 1871 census information. You have the option to search by person or address. You don't have to subscribe but you can purchase units...

Help working out a name on the 1851 census
Thank you all so much for your help. It seems that Alexander Officer is the name everyone seems to agree with.
Thanks also to Nick for taking the time to look up the Officer family in the previous and next census.
Kind regards
Tracey

Help working out a name on the 1851 census
My gggg grandfather's occupation was listed as 'shoe maker master employing' on the 1851 census. There were also 3 other shoemakers listed at the same address one was his son, one a cousin and the other a visitor. It is the vistor's name that I am having trouble working out. Same person , but two census entries!
Here's a strange thing I wanted to share with you all. I have found the same person at two different addresses for the census of 1871. My ancestor was living with her parents on one sheet yet with her grandparents on another. The houses were only streets apart so I am assuming that she either ran ho...

I have a few ancestors in my family tree who died in hospital. I have put the hospital name and address down as to where my ancestor died but I also have a home address for them too.
