Maximum PDF Size
Thanks for the thought Peter. I've just tried that and it doesn't help. I've now looked at the jpeg FH created with Photoshop and discovered that when FH creates a jpeg for a diagram it uses a resolution of 96ppi. However FH uses 300ppi when saving a diagram as a PDF. This means that for any output ...

Just researched the question of PDF limits a bit more and found this information in PDF Reference Sixth Edition, Version 1.7 . Beginning with PDF 1.6 and Acrobat 7.0 the maximum PDF page size can be up to 15,000,000 inches! Here is an extract from note 177 in Appendix H of the above document that ma...

Maximum PDF Size
Peter, I've downloaded IrfanView and all its plugins. It's a very useful program. It converts jpegs to PDFs but the max size PDF that Irfanview supports is 1189mm x 841mm (A0). This is much smaller than I get by saving PDF's via Family Historian. A Family Historian PDF comes out at 3250mm x 1081.7mm...

Maximum PDF Size
According to my PDF settings the maximum size PDF I can have is 3250mm x 1081.7mm. I have created a family tree diagram, which when saved as a PDF, slightly exceeds that and extends onto two pages. The only way I have found to overcome the PDF limitation and only create one page is to reduce the sca...

Fact based query problem
Thanks Bill, it's no problem! This has been an educational thread for me and I plan to try and improve my understanding of expressions and functions as a result. Mike and PeterR, many thanks for your thoughts on the use of the Properties Tab 'Age' box. I'm now thinking about how I can use it in addi...

Fact based query problem
I see. However, if an age is given on a document I use that to enter an estimated/approximate date of birth. I feel this has the advantage of enabling a calculated age for all other facts. The only drawback I see with that is that ages are sometimes incorrect on documents, that other documents for t...

Fact based query problem
Many thanks to all for the quick responses. I apologise for the delay in replying but my internet connection died after I posted my question. I was not aware that the expression I used (created by FH after clicking 'Age' in the list of fields then '>') was linked to the age field on the property box...

Fact based query problem
I have made a custom query to list all occupations recorded in the family history, the name of the individual employed in that occupation, the date and place of employment, and their age. To create this I copied the 'All Facts' query and customized it to list only occupation facts. All is working fi...

DVD Individual Summary Omits Birth
I like your idea of introducing a Custom Fact to achieve the outcome I want. The only snag being the amount of work involved without a plugin to automate the process. I've not yet looked at what's involved in writing plugins but will do so. I used to write software for mainframe computers in Assembl...

Thanks for clarifying that Peter, that was helpful. Having read the links Mike gave me and the points you made this is clearly a much wider and more complex topic than I had envisaged when I made my post. I still feel that its important that child births be recorded in their parents list of events a...

Many thanks for the quick response. I followed your suggestions and they certainly display some of the child birth information in Main Section Items . Unfortunately this results in a certain amount of duplication in that section unless I set the Children label to Hide , but if I set that to hide I t...

However, when I publish a DVD using the Individual Summary Report (for Web, CD, or DVD) option these birth events do not appear in the Individual Events and Attributes secti...

Missing Jpeg on DVD
Thanks for the feedback Mike, following up on your hints I have now discovered the cause. Calico Pie have provided me with a fix (5.0.9) which hopefully will resolve the 'stopped working' problem I reported. I have copied below my reply to them which includes the result of the first test of 5.0.9 and some more recent history with 5.0.7. - Reply to Calico Pie: Many thanks for the trial up...

Family Historian Support have confirmed that ignoring the max size option is a bug - this is what they say -
'Thank you for pointing that out. I can confirm that it is a bug. It will be fixed in the next minor upgrade, which will be made available as a free upgrade for version 5 users.'

I've summarized the problem in an email to Calico Pie support along with a link to this thread. Once I hear from them I'll report back here what they say.

Based on today's test the 'Stopped Working' problem looks like a memory allocation problem, at least in my case. Computer Boot 1 --------------- Before launching FH I opened Photoshop and made it open a very large 16 bit image. Then I launched FH - it crashed with the 'stopped working' error. When t...

For today's tests both the firewall and anti-virus were active, FH preferences set back to have media thumbnails loaded automatically and no other application programs were open. The only thing changed since yester...
