Media Links

Thanks Peter! I did manage to find a path and copied a media file into that path.  The database I now have open has all of my linked jpegs.  HOORAY! However, [my doing, I'm sure], there is more than ONE listing with basically the same name in the 'gedcom file tasks'.  My guess is that my previous 'm...

Media Links

Hi Jane,

In desperation I've sent you an email with the screen shot.  Can't find the file path to the Xd out jpegs.

I don't seem to have an .fhdata folder ?????

Now THOROUGHLY CONFUSED.  Hope to find - puleeze - a relatively easy solution to this.

Thanks again.

Media Links

When converting to v4 I started with a new project based on a gedcom from another program.  I THINK all of my media has been attached since then - +/- Sept 2009. I have a screen shot in .jpg but it won't upload for some reason - any idea why? Real bummer at this point. Will take any suggestions with...

Media Links

Yes, I know this has been covered before but I don't remember where or when and I need some help.  [cry] Till now all my media records have been fine and showed up where they should be.  I have some 1198 of them. Have been adding a lot from Find A Grave. A couple of days ago something [have no idea ...

WorldVitalRecords

Just my 2 cents on World Vital Records.  I tried it initially and found their search feature useless.  I kept getting email re great offers, etc. so I took a subscription - reasonable at $20 or so. Even using all the parameters of their search engine, I rarely get anything of use.  Even if I do, oft...

Nickname etc

Hi, I almost missed it myself but if you look to the right of the name field, you will see a blue 'more' which is a link.  Click on that and it will give you name prefix, name suffix, nickname and 'given name used' options. The other items can go in 'facts' where you can select a number of items suc...

Duplicate Name Warning

I just spent a LOT of time merging, unlinking etc etc a WHOLE family that somehow I duplicated While FTM was/is REALLY PICKY when a new name was entered, it DID pop up a note that said 'is this Sidney Sherwood the son of Ephriam?' if it saw same name and DOB. THAT would have saved the duplication. S...

No Duplicate Name Warning

This also is a wish list item - not on there at the moment - at least a search did not find it. [cry] I just spent a LOT of time merging, unlinking etc etc a WHOLE family that somehow I duplicated.  And, not being all that practiced in the merging area, there are probably details that got lost in th...

Drop Down History List

The back button in the property box goes back ONLY to the original selection from the records list.  A great feature - but obviously goes only through one lineage. When checking out a variety of items for various families a drop down history list would be a GREAT help in seeing where you've been and...

Duplicate Sources

Just click on the source, go to View, select Record Links and it will give you a list of those who are linked to that source.  You can then select any from the list and go to that record. Merging the sources should be easy. Select one of them, go to merge/compare and you will get a list of all the s...

genealogical junk -- a dilemma

Guess I am quite fortunate in that my prime line's first known ancestor - and several subsequent generations - have been well documented and by respected genealogists.  For the total novice as I was nine years ago, that was a great start. Since that time I have added substantially to my prime line, ...

Wish List Requests processed

How do we vote?  Don't see any info on that.  Also, does voting now mean that some of the wish list requests MAY soon be incorporated in a new 4.++?

That would be GREAT!!!

Property Box- Add Birth Place; Death D

With the property box fully extended, in the 'family view' there is room to additionally show [for the children] the birth PLACE as well as death date and place.  This would make viewing the family details much easier and allow those details be be entered without moving up to the individual - such a...

Placement of ';Notes'; -

[confused] My practice is to add notes to individuals as I find information in the various sources. Such as: Roy Gregory has a Sept 1918 Draft Reg. [US] 'Roy's Sept 1918 Draft Reg. indicates that he is a draftsman for the Capital Lumber Co. in Franklin Co., KY.  He lives at 621 Logan, Franklin, KY. ...

Editing of Named Lists

Hi Jane, I'm still looking for a way to get my 'source types' in FH.  As noted previously 'there's a ton of sources'.  I'm not sure what I would need to send to you to work with. Most of the UDF's I believe are child/parent relationships which apparently FH doesn't recognize the format used by Famil...

V4 nbsp;- upside down text

Thanks Simon.  I did the download and it seems to have fixed the problem of upside down text. Had also noticed that the sentences for facts had not filled during the upside down problem.  That also is now working correctly and I do have my 32 bit reset. [smile][smile] You get two smiles for the 'fix...

V4 nbsp;- upside down text

Think I have an answer to MY particular 'upside down' happening. I have Windows XP Home Edition, v. 2002, Service Pack 2.  When I add pictures, apparently Windows automatically goes back to 32 bit color.  Had just added a number of pictures - then saw I had the upside down text again.  When I checke...

Edit/Repeat and Ability to minimize property box

To Arishmell's point - I found that if I cascade the windows, I can access the records window; then access the property box of another individual and still have the focus window of my original person open.  I can't have both boxes open at the same time but the property box has a 'go forward/go back ...

Thanks so much, Jane, for the advice and offer of help.  Will take you up on it later. On Wednesday will be offsite of computer usage for about two weeks. Edit/Repeat and Ability to minimize property box

Yes, I know the property box can now be squirrely sized any way you might want. And it can be floated.  Both of these are REALLY great.  With it floated and stretched out a lot, the focus window is obscured. Ability to  minimize that box would be very useful. An edit/repeat function would also be ve...

V4 nbsp;- upside down text

Have quite a few posts here on installing full FH v.4.  A major transition re types not converting from another software package has been addressed by Jane though I can't take her up on it right now. The upside down text did not apply to me - UNTIL TODAY! I think this now merits a big GRRR.  All I d...

Unfortunately, SOURCE TYPE, does not come over from Family Treemaker's gedcom format to FH.  Nor do AKA's but they show up in the exception files and thankfully, there is not a ton of them. V4 Upgrade

OK, here's my last knit picking on Upgrade vs. Full NEW Version. While, FH v.4 has many of the features of v.3.1.2 - and perhaps of other earlier versions - it is a stand alone.  Version 3.1.2 upgrade to v.4 is one thing, V 4 purchased in FULL is a different animal and should run independently on an...
