I still don't understand why the Project Data Folder is shown as being directly linked to the C: drive when it is not. In fact where is it? Depending what OS you are using it is a 'shortcut' to: 'C:Documents and Settings\My DocumentsFamily Historian Projects\.fh_data' or wherever you keep your '.fh...

FH4 has the ability to use relative addressing (relative to the Project Data Folder), giving much shorter file paths. The folders are the same in each section of the image but some of the files in the folders have relative addresses and some full file paths. You can easily move files from one to the...

Have you looked at Wikipedia? That's usually a good place to start. There are also legal dictionaries online - just Google 'legal dictionaries' (http://www.google.co.uk and select 'pages from the UK').

I load each image into Media and give it a name like 'Service Record: Joe Smith, page 1' and create the date record - it might well be a period rather than a single date. I then create a Source for each group of records eg all the Service Records for one person; and then append all the relevant imag...

I just switch them off as they take up too much room and I don't need any pictures at this level of detail.

I think the answer is that embedding graphics files is definitely not recommended - for the reasons you state. What you can do, however, is to copy the project file to your memory stick and provided you use relative addressing then the graphics should still be accessible.

Save the standard report as a custom report (ie Save Report As ...>Custom Report Type...)and then play around with the Report Options until you get what you want - and don't forget to save it when you have amended it!

Property Box Behaviour - Version 4.0.2
I have just noticed some odd behaviour when using the Property Box and entering Sources. My usual method of working is to add the event image to the Multimedia, then create the Source, linking in the Multimedia. I then go to the All tab on the Property Box, select the event and add the Source. If I ...

JonAxtell said: Gerry, I was thinking of the tooltip more as an aide memoire so that you can find your way around a diagram in which the boxes are nothing more than blobs. Jon, I was thinking that you could display the minimum of information on the diagram so that you could see more of the overall ...

Seems a good idea. Couldn't they be made configurable so that they can display whatever you want? For example, the tool tip could show additional information about a person. You would probably want to be able to switch tool-tips off when not needed.

General consideration of the effect of name change
JonAxtell said: I too would prefer people with more than one name to be shown more than once in the appropriate place when sorted by name. I can see this leading to a huge amount of confusion. If this option is seriously being considered then there must be a way to turn it off for those of us that ...

There was a wish list item (No 71) that was incoporated in Version 2.2. However, there is still no auto-complete in some fields eg Address. (Place, yes, but Address no.). Auto-complete in this and other fields would speed up data entry. Gerry http://www.fhug.org.uk/wishlist/wldisplay.php?wlwlref=59 ...

How do I search in the Focus Window?
It depends which 'magnifying glass' you are clicking. If you show a person's details in the Property Box then to get them to the focus window you need to click the small 'magnifying glass' on the toolbar at the top of the Property Box. That's because (I assume) that the person whose details are disp...

Reducing the property box font sizes (both text and title) should give you more space to play with. Click on the Property Box Menu button and select Options. Change both font sizes and click Apply to see how they look. (Reducing each font by 1 point size gave me quite a lot of extra space but it mig...

How to unlink a child?
Create an unnamed (second) partner for the mother and move the child to the new parents (ie unlink from the existing parents and re-link the child to the mother and unnamed partner.) You may eventually find out who the father was and then you just need to give the unnamed partner a name.
