Re: FH-v5 AS-v4 WinXP Crossover & Wine Bottles
Gerry, Windows 8.1 is not so bad, if you get 8 it's a free upgrade via the Store, personally I spend the $4.99 on Start 8 to get it even more like Windows 7 for my machines which don't have a touch screen. You might also find these suggestions for 8.1 useful http://www.howtogeek.com/167013/how-to-o...

Re: FH-v5 AS-v4 WinXP Crossover & Wine Bottles
Gerry, I presume you have been following the thread 10907|FH running on Wine and how_to:install_family_historian_with_crossover_wine|> How to Install Family Historian with Crossover and Wine in which Valkrider had success with FH and AS on Crossover , but less so on Wine which is ongoing? Yes, I ha...

FH-v5 AS-v4 WinXP Crossover & Wine Bottles
Nick's announcement about the next version of AS has been the trigger for me to upgrade from XP to Windows 8 - I hope the experience won't be too traumatic! As a Mac user I have been holding off upgrading from XP in the hope that Wine or something similar could be used to allow me to run FH and AS b...

I guess there still is no version released for Mac? Many thanks for any reply :?: You will need Parallels or something s...

... I've also found quite a few records via Family Search https://familysearch.org/search which seems to work well even without signing in, although it costs nothing to register. You only get transcriptions, not original records, but these can help with further searches elsewhere. ... In fact Famil...

Re: Irish Census
I use the format: Year Town, Address, Surname(s) for the file name of all my Census images as it is much easier to find the one you are looking for among several hundred images. I also use file name as the Media and Source name in FH - it also assists in sorting the media and sources. I also put eac...

Re: FH running on Wine
Hi Colin,
Interestingly I did get the Demo version up and running OK so I suspect the problem should be easily solvable!
Will be interested to hear how you get on.

FH running on Wine
Has anyone managed to install FH5 using Wine on a Mac computer? I have followed the instructions for installing on a Linux system but still cannot get past the FH Licence Key page. The Linux instructions were meant to overcome this problem but I wonder if there are additional issues on the Mac. By t...
Re: Ancestry
I am confused. Anne East said: It is possible to get images of marriage certificates on Ancestry and FindMyPast. These are images of the certificate in parish records and contain exactly the same information as a GRO certificate. I have saved many pounds in this way! Not all areas are available but...
Re: Ancestry
Hello to all I have been given several certificates all of which seem to be computer printouts. The person who gave them to me does not know where they originated from but believes that they come from Ancestry. As a result I got onto Ancestry and paid my subscription as the certificate information ...

Profile: Family Historian Version option missing
In my edit profile window I don't have that Family Historian tick box! Immediately below the Interests field are just the Reset and Submit buttons. I'm using Chrome on W7. I only have an entry in Occupation field, the others are all blank. I have exactly the same on Firefox & Windows 7. I don't hav...

Old Front Page
I am assuming that the old front page is no longer - at least I cannot find it. It was a useful summary of the latest posts, latest downloads and plugins plus news about FH, interesting web sites etc. Is this going to be replicated in some form on the new front page? If not, may I make a request for...

Entering unknown relatives
That is a lot of people in one grave. It suggests that they may be his siblings or his children who died in infancy. What dates are shown?
You could do the research before entering the names or you could enter them as unrelated people and link them up when you find out how they are related.

I wouldn't recommend using Android apps on your iPad as they might void the warranty. Unless, Mike, you meant 'iPad ANCESTRY app'? I use GedView which is in the iStore and allows you to import a standard Gedcom file, sans images, of course. A basic and simple app, shows descendant and pedigree chart...

Ancestral Sources is highly recommended and can be downloaded for free from this site: http://www.fhug.org.uk/wiki/doku.php?id ... rces:index
It is a stand-alone program (not a plug-in) and is an excellent way to record all those baptisms, marriages and census records.
