Saving Work

To Tatewise: Many thanks for your kind patience and useful instructions -which, however, still require me to change my filing structure permanently. This is clearly of little concern (and perhaps quite beneficial) to those users who will only ever run a single family history project; it is those min...

What I don't understand is why you are so certain that the 'Project' structure is so beneficial.  What is it for?  What advantages/improvements does it bring to carrying out research over the simple, uncomplicated V3.1.2 way of saving data?   All it does is add several more mouse clicks to access da...

Saving Work

Many thanks for you quick reply. Is there any way I can circumvent/avoid the entire 'Project' routine and simply save (and open) both my .ged and .fhc files to destinations where I want to put them and not where FH dictates I should have them? - in fact, just like it used to be in V3.1.2. The reason...

Saving Work

How can I save my .ged and .fhc files directly to a location/folder of my choice and bypass the automatic 'My Project' route?

Records Window

In 3.1.2, is there a way of re-numbering/re-allocating Record IDs? I have a project where I have deleted about 10 records as not relevant, and should like to renumber the remainder so that there are no gaps in the record id number sequence.

Regards

Peter

Dear Dave

Great - terrific - many thanks for your kind consideration. I will test it over the next few days with various trees that I have ... and let you know if it works.

With gratitude

Editing Diagram Text Scheme

Yes - but what I want to know is: what are the exact settings in all the various boxes when you come to edit the marriage line?

Editing Diagram Text Scheme

OK - but what you've both missed is that I want SPOUSE NAME as well as Marriage Date & Place - this would clearly identify which marriage was which. I currently have Spouse name, Date & place - but it is appearing in both boxes and I want it to appear in only one box of the pair as described above. ...

Editing Diagram Text Scheme

Thanks for your reply;

does that mean (A) what I want isn't possible? or (B) what I want isn't practicable because it won't show all marriages?

Cheers

Editing Diagram Text Scheme

Sorry - I'm not making myself clear - so I'll try again: In the diagram, I want the Spouse Name, Marriage Date and Place to appear in the Male relative's box and NOT repeated in his Spouse Box (I am showing separate boxes for the marriage partners) but I also want it to appear in a Female relative's...

Editing Diagram Text Scheme

Thank you for your reply.
I am using the Text Scheme, and I cannot see how to have the marriage only in one box and not spouse.  Perhaps in order to have this I need to use individual text schemes for B,M,D, etc in order to be able to edit the marriage box to my requirement?

Editing Diagram Text Scheme

Is there any way to edit a text scheme for Diagrams so that the Marriage details appears only once in the Husband's box and not the spouse's box as well?

I have created a Custom Text Scheme (I called it 'PRG Special') for my charts; I need to migrate this scheme to another computer running FH (my chart printer)- how do I find the file which contains the scheme - it is not in the 'Text Scheme' folder, nor can I find it anywhere else in the programme f...

Customising Narrative Reports

No - the whole point is that if you create a narrative report (Ancestors or Descendants) only the note fields for the direct line ancestors are included -e.g. grandparents, but not great aunts/uncles; I want the notes field for all persons in the narrative report. Somewhere on your site, I thought I...

I should like to add the 'Notes' field to all persons appearing in the Narrative reports - Ancestors & Descendants. Is this possible?
