Thanks to you all. I've been seeking to highlight text in the original image rather than extract text. From what findmypast have now told me it would seem that the issue relates to their scanning.

I have obtained hard copy military service records and related documents (father and grandfather) and found an Australian online service record for a great uncle.

I would appreciate advice on best practice for recording such military service details in FH.

Thanks Chris.  I'm using the Index of Places in England and Wales at http://www.ukbmd.org.uk/genuki/places/ which covers changes in Registration Districts between 1837 and 1974.

I'm tidying up my record keeping. Having followed earlier threads I've adopted a 4 column Place List: Civil Parish/Township; Registration District; County; Country.
Is there a way to change the column headings from 'Place 1' etc to the above?
