Thanks CVG,
Yes, that was the problem - I'm on my way again now.
Thanks to all !

Query - find text anywhere
Thanks Peter, again very helpful indeed.
I do have V4, but when I try to use those expressions it throws an error: 'Invalid expression for the current query type'. Any idea what I have done wrong please ?
Cheers,
Geoff.

Query - find text anywhere
Hi Peter, Thanks for that helpful response. That does indeed get me a list of the records that contain the search text, which is a good start, but I want to list the actual matched text phrase. Do you have any idea how do I get the result set to show the context of the match? So, if searching for em...

Query - find text anywhere
Can anyone please put me on the right lines please ? I am creating a query that will enable me to search anywhere within any text field in the database for a specific text string. You might want to search for '@' if you wanted to find email addresses amongst various note fields, or 'Manchester' for ...

V4.1 Release Candidate Now Available.
Hi Simon,
Can you please say when you will declare the RC to be stable please ? I'm not having a problem with anything at the moment using V4.02, but will obviously upgrade when the RC is declared stable.
I see there is already a 4.1.1 ?
Cheers,
Geoff.

Treat whole individual record as text ?
Thanks Jane, Yes that is a good idea. It would only mark the whole record though, not highlight actual detail that needs work, but a useful suggestion which I think I will implement. It's odd given all the useful, rich, data-handling features that FH4 has, that some sort of 'dynamic named list' isn'...

Treat whole individual record as text ?
Hi Jon,
Thanks, that explains why I am having no luck making it auto-update
So when the manual says that if the specified names lists don't exist at startup they are created for you - they are just created null ? Isn't that a bit pointless ?
Cheers,
Geoff.

Treat whole individual record as text ?
Thanks for that Jon, So if I click 'Add Result Set Records to Named List' will that then refresh the named 'todo' list each time I open FH ? Or do I need to delete the list, then restart FH to make it refresh it ? If they don't keep themselves refreshed by the results of a query, I can't quite see w...

Treat whole individual record as text ?
Peter, If I wanted to now fill a named list with the results of that query, how would I do it please ? I have the records window up, the named list is there, I click on it and the headings come up as expected, but it says . I put the named list in the auto-create list and restarted FH but still empt...

Treat whole individual record as text ?
When creating a custom search, is it possible to match text anywhere within an individuals record, rather than the seperate fields ? For example, I have used the text 'TODO:' to indicate a non-urgent task that needs tidying up later, in various note fields of several persons. I am now writing a quer...

Remember last record on startup ?
Ah, ok thanks. Thats a shame because it would be SO useful. As to the latter, I only said 'the option to be warned'. I know people who have turned it on and forgotten and ended up with loads of wrong citations. If it annoyed you you could leave the warning turned off :) Thanks for the reply anyway, ...

Remember last record on startup ?
I have looked for this but can't find it. Is there an option that allows FH to start up focussed on the last person you were working on? (preferably the last view - though I can see this would be tricky) This would save such a lot of time, especially when entering a lot of GedcomCensus data, where y...

Conditional diagram elements ?
Is it possible to use a flag to affect the style of a box or line in a diagram - if not is there a workaround at all ? I was thinking you might have a flag called 'Tenuous', which you could set if you have discovered something questionable about one of the details of a person and clear after you hav...

Jon, Yes agreed on the searching capabilities of FH. I wonder why it is so weak in this area? Would anyone from CP care to comment ? I suppose given the quantity and complexity of searches I tend to do, using the inbuilt search tool is just about usable and is still more convenient than firing up (s...

Anonymous, Good news: one of the features of FH is that it doesn't have a proprietary file format. As you enter data, it just updates your GEDCOM file. A GEDCOM file can be read by any other genealogy programme thats worth its salt. You could even open it with a text editor to retrieve information a...

Chris,
I have noticed this as well. Pity, because it seems to work well otherwise (I am using Ubuntu 9).
I wonder if anyone at Calico can help with this ?

Great stuff Nick - GC is a real boon to anyone using FH. I wasn't complaining about the delay, just pointing out that waiting for an even larger GEDCOM to update might become a problem.

Hi Brian, Thanks for your comments. Yes, I always use the 'Save for Web' function in PS on pictures and keep all my media files in a carefully constructed tree which also contains the FH project files structure (I don't 'copy files into' when saving a media link). The point I was getting at original...

Hi Jane, Thanks for that quick reply. Are you not concerned about swelling your GEDCOM file with lots of verbage though ? Perhaps it doesn't matter. I would create a seperate text file and then link it to the source, but like I said, it's slower, more cumbersome and less accessible (requiring an ext...

This must have been asked before, but I really can't find it anywhere if it has ! If you receive an email with some genealogical information -perhaps amongst some other general chatter- how would you source the information ? Obviously you would create a new source record called 'Email from Joe Blogg...
