Data references for diagram, conditional ones

Sabine,

I wanted to do the same but apparently it is not possible to do this yet. It is a wish list item. See the wish list for the item 'If construct to select one of a selection of a field'

Can't load Saved as pictures from Paint Shop Pro

David, I believe the problem is related to the use of compression with tif files (or at least the LZW compression). I found some of my tif files would open in FH and others would not. When I compared properties, all the ones that would not open were lzw compressed and the ones that did open were unc...

Can't load Saved as pictures from Paint Shop Pro

I haven't used the Multimedia features of FH very much but I have recently scanned a lot of family photographs as tif files for another reason and manipulated some of them with Paint Shop Pro. After seeing your posting, I tried to bring some of them into FH and found I had the same problem. It doesn...

Privacy on the Web

Thanks Jane, the Cyndi's List link was especially useful with a lot stuff on privacy.

Privacy on the Web

I found out that a distant cousin was planning to put a family tree (including my family) on a web site. I cautioned him about including details of those still living. From his reply, it seems he had never given any thought to questions of privacy. I would like to direct him to some article or site ...

Help with IGI please

You don't say what period you are in. While IGI is, as Jane said, mainly an extract of partish registers it also includes (especially for earlier periods)member submitted data which is often speculative. Make sure all the records are 'extracted from local records' (or some words like that). However ...

Default Marriage Status

Yes I agree that a marriage event can be added but it is more likely that our ancestors were married to their spouses than not so it seems reasonable this should be the default. But Family Historian is also inconsistent in the use of marriage status. If, for example, you ask for an Individual Summar...

Default Marriage Status

This follows from a thread in 'Thoughts on 2.3' I ask that the default for the Marriage Status field in the Properties Dialog be 'Married'. It is not possible anyway to select Married from the drop down list as it is not included as an option. I have many situations where a spouse is known but no ac...

Source Assessment

My understanding is that the BTs were  a copy of the register prepared annually by the churchwardnes or witnessed by them (We have found an ancestor's signature on one from early 18C as he was a churchwarden at the time.). However the original register itself may not have been entered up at the time...

Source Assessment

I am happy to regard a GRO certificate as a primary source, though purists will argue that as it is a copy of the register entry then it is not a primary source. Likewise I regard parish registers as primary sources even where I have viewed them on microfilm (the usual). However an index of parish r...

Thoughts on 2.3

Thanks Jane - that explains that little apparent anomaly. However the basic problem is that the new narrative report treats the same data in a different way to the other reports in that it only recognises spouses as married if a marriage event has been entered. The default should be 'Married' unless...

Thoughts on 2.3

Just to add a bit more information on my earlier post. The Individual Summary Report and the Family Group Report both regard my couples as married even when I have not entered a marriage event (i.e. date or place) but the new Narrative Report will only regard them as married if there is a marriage e...

Thoughts on 2.3

Thanks Jane - I take the point that couple may not have married and hence there is no marriage event to report. (In the cases I have I am confident there was a marriage; we are in the 16C. I just haven't found where or when yet). Anyway that doesn't explain the program behaviour that if I put a date...

Thoughts on 2.3

Not explored everything yet but I like the narrative reports and the improved handling of sources. I have found a little quirk with my narrative reports and wonder if anyone else has this. When I don't have a marriage date or place but do have a spouse, it doesn't put in the sentence for example 'Jo...

How To Animations

Excellent animations. Well done Jane. I learnt something new about FH from them. They should help those on the mailing list calling for better manuals.
One comment (constructive) I had to keep scrolling up and down to get from the next button to where the action was taking place.

Diagrams - Baptism date in place of birth date

On a diagram I want to insert the baptism date where I have no birth date recorded. So I want to write a condition to output a line
when there is no birth date. I have tried various 'if no --' in squigly brackets but cannot find how to write the condition so it works.

Source References in Reports

I know that better formatting of sources in reports is already on the wish list but could I make a specific request that source references are only listed once. At present the same source is listed for every citation of it.
