Re: Sources: <Unnamed Source>
Thanks, Mike. Your first suggestion didn't work for me, but the second one did. I'll make a note of what I did, as this has happened before.

Sources: <Unnamed Source>
In my list of sources I have inadvertently got one source which I didn't give a name to and which has not yet been used. I am trying to change its name and use it, but I haven't been able to give it another name.
Is this possible and if so, how?

Re: Problems saving changes on FH - advice, please
Thanks, Jim. I realise that now. I first noticed the problem with Family Historian.
I have a computer-buff friend coming to see me later today so I hope he can solve it.
Thank you all for your help.

Re: Problems saving changes on FH - advice, please
I've discovered that the problem is across my whole computer system. All files/folders come up with "read only". I have followed advice from various sources and, for example, I went into My Documents, then went into Oganize then Properties and un-checked the Read Only attribute box and clicked OK. M...

Re: Problems saving changes on FH - advice, please
I have a Mirror drive and save most of my work to this J drive. I don't use the C drive so much.
I always seem to see My Documents (New), for some reason.

Re: Problems saving changes on FH - advice, please
Another problem that I'm experiencing is that all my Word documents are opening in "read-only" format.

Re: Problems saving changes on FH - advice, please
If I try to close the first error message, this one appears: "An error has occurred. Family Historian could not save to file J:\My Documents (New)\Family Historian Projects\A* full tree\A* full tree.fh_data\A* full tree.ged However a copy of your changes has been saved to a new file, J:\My Documents...

Re: Problems saving changes on FH - advice, please
Thanks for your reply, Jim. Yes, whenever I have tried to add information to my Family Historian tree today I get the error message. I'm afraid I'm not at all computer savvy and apart from the de-frag I'm not sure what else was changed. I took a GEDCOM back-up yesterday. All my information seems int...

Problems saving changes on FH - advice, please
Today my computer carried out a de-frag and other operations. Now I keep getting this message: "Part of the save process failed - Please click Retry. If this problem recurs, you may need to consider if any software running in the background (i.e. backup software) may be responsible, and may need to ...

Re: Source record id - deleted numbers
Thanks for the reply, Jane. It's not really a problem, I was just wondering if it was possible to tidy it up.
I'll try your suggestion.

Source record id - deleted numbers
When I started using FH I made mistakes adding sources and subsequently deleted some of them. Consequently I now have record ids 3, 7, 9 etc with some gaps. Is it possible to reclaim these numbers? I have tried entering the missing custom id in the box when adding sources, e.g. 1, but it seems to de...

Adding scanned death certificate to death
[[Moderator Note: This topic has been moved from the User Group Forum because it is related to Family Historian General Usage NOT the FHUG web site.]] I have been watching Jane's video on YouTube for adding a birth certificate and have been trying to adapt this to a death certificate. I'm not starti...

Many thanks for your reply, Mike, and apologies for posting in the wrong place.
I'll try your suggestions and work out the easiest way for me.
I have added some early ancestors recently and was wondering how many I had in each generation.
Thanks again.

Can I search for 9x great-grandparents, for example, on FH?
I've quite an extensive tree after many years' research, and have got back to the start of parish records for some lines. FH identifies my ancestors as 6x-great-grandfather, for example. I would like to find all my 9x-great-grandparents without looking at the full tree and working them out. Is there...

How do I install FH on my tablet?
I've been using Family Historian happily on my main computer for a month or so, but now I'd like to be able to have it on my Samsung Note 10.1 tablet, but I'm unsure how to proceed. I've downloaded/backed-up my tree onto a micro device which fits my tablet but I need to install the software, but all...

New user - sources help
I have imported my tree from PAF and I'm trying to provide repositories and sources for my records. I have been following the instructions in the leaflet 'Where to Record it' and the book 'Getting the most from Family Historian 5'. However, I'm not adding new information - e.g. with my grandmother's...
