Importing Gedcom into ancestry

Thanks jane,

Do you know how I can make a backup file of my FH file? There appears to be no 'Save As' option and when I try to do a simple copy in windows explorer it always fails when I reload.

Help appreciated. :)

Importing Gedcom into ancestry

Thanks, Jane. I'll investigate tomorrow ... :-)

So the ability to upload is being affected by all the other bits of info that are on my FH gedcom such as events/attributes etc?

Thanks again.

Importing Gedcom into ancestry

Hi there, Sorry for another question, but I have googled and no answers have been returned. I am basically wanting to export and then upload a gedcom file to ancestry so that other people can see my basic tree. I export from FH v4.0 and then when I try to upload to Ancestry I get an error saying: 'E...

Info included in charts

I think you can do this by 'right clicking' when your diagram is showing, and then clicking on the 'text' tab at the top. You then have a choice of what to show, or you can make up your own by clicking 'New' and selecting your information of choice! This is the first information i've helped with so ...

Location information

Jane said: You could use a fact query to extract all the locations for who ever you want. Could you just give a quick example as to how to do this? If you have time. Jane said: Personally I use Family Atlas on my Gedcom file to do this, but if you just want a list of people and locations you don't ...

Hi Jane,

Many thanks for your reply. I'm still getting used to FH so I will try to investigate all the methods you mention.

Thanks again.

Location information

Hi all, Just wondering if there is any functionality within FH4 to be able to print out the locations of members on my family tree. To give you an idea of why I am asking, this would be for when I go visit the area and I am wondering if I could print off a list of locations from each census entry so...

Resizing ....

Thanks ever so much Jane, I didn't realise you could play about with the docking options, so I have now got the 3 'windows' going vertically, which is more more pleasing to my eye!

Thanks again.

Resizing ....

Hi again, Just wondering if there is any way I can resize or re-format the source and individual information box that appears on the right of the screen? For example I want to be able to make the actual source box bigger (indicated by a crude arrow!) at the expense of the Entry Date/Assessment/Where...

Best way of writing 'narratives'?

Oh, just another quick question that has been bugging me a little bit... How is the bets way to write 'narratives' for the individuals in your family tree. There are some 'events' that can't be pigeon holed into an existing attribute but I would like them to appear on the individual reports. For exa...

Using icons and flags to show BMD's

Thanks for your reply Jane,

So as I am starting again enetering all my details in FH (rather than just importing), I guess it will be easier to just add the BMD flags as I am going along?

I will have to have a play about with the flags then, as still a bit confusing!

Thanks again.

Using icons and flags to show BMD's

Hi there all, First post so go easy on me. I have recently bought FH as I was frustrated with the functionalilty of FTM - so far I have been mightlily impresses, so much so that I am redoing my whole family tree to make use of FH's features (it's also a good reminder and have actually found a few ne...
