Re: Locating a record via _UID
Hi Mark, Yes, that's probably something like what I'll do. My workflow (so far as I've thought it through) will be to download the ged file from FMP, and import that to a new FH project. Once in there, I'll run a plugin to export the key details to a text file or two. Then I can open my main project...

Re: Locating a record via _UID
Thanks, both. Individuals are probably not too awkward, but I know that Families will be a bit of a challenge. Anyway, I'll give it a go.

Locating a record via _UID
Hi, I'm using FMP for the online version of my tree, and I'm getting into using plugins as a way to apply updates to FH, using exported data from FMP. I'm very aware of the risks of doing this, but I'm interested to give it a try. FMP applies a unique ID (in fairly standard guid format) to each expo...

Re: Including long text field in query result
Thanks for the help, all. I've made some progress with a plugin, thanks to the help guides mentioned by Mark. Here's what I have, which does output the note text in full. Maybe not the most elegant code, but by building up from the examples in the guide, it wasn't too tricky. tblNotes = {} tblIds = ...

Re: Including long text field in query result
Thanks, Mike.
I'll try the paragraph-based approach. Meantime, I think it's time I had a go with plugins. I've been a software developer in my time so I'm hoping that LUA won't be too much of a curve to climb.

Including long text field in query result
I've just discovered that text fields such as notes are truncated at or around 500 characters, when I include them in a query. I need the whole field because it's being copied into an Excel document for use elsewhere. Other forum posts led me to the =GetLabelledText() function, but that's designed t...

Merging from FMP - excluding media URLS
I've been experimenting with a ged file exported from FindMyPast (FMP). I use the File Compare/Merge process, which works OK, but it can't handle the media URLs that FMP exports. Example segment from the FMP file: 0 @I6@ INDI 1 NAME Alice /Alty/ 2 GIVN Alice 2 SURN Alty 2 _PRIM Y 2 SOUR @S39@ 3 PAGE...

Re: Select only Add records when merging a file
OK, thanks, Mike. There are few enough to add, that I can probably do so manually. At least FH has helped by identifying the ones I need to do.

Select only Add records when merging a file
Hi, I have a copy of my tree on FindMyPast (FMP), and I'd like to sync it with my local copy in FH. As a first step, I just want to deal with new people and families who have been added to FMP. So I exported the Gedcom from FMP, took a copy of my FH project file, and I'm running Merge/Compare File u...

Re: Comparison of two files
Thanks for your help, Mike. Sorry not to have replied earlier. I don't think my notification settings on this forum are doing what I'd hoped they would. Anyway, I'll follow your advice and bear your warnings in mind. I think I'll try an experiment or two with some smaller sample / test files and see...

Comparison of two files
Hi all My brother-in-law has sent me a Gedcom file and I'm comparing it with my own FH7 project. I've a couple of questions about this: 1. Using the file compare/merge feature - when I click "Merge", I know that it will merge into the file I currently have open. But does it save the merged file to d...

Linking to an MS Word doc
Hi, My cousin sent me a Word doc with a slab of text about my great-grandmother. For now I've copy/pasted the text into a Source record (in the Text From Source field). I've seen some posts on the forum that mention using links to external documents, so I'm wondering whether that's a "better" approa...

Aha - I see that the new beta version includes this as a facility ... I'll give it a try!

Import from Ancestry gedcom
A colleague of mine had built a tree on Ancestry's site, and is now trialling FH. Ancestry's recent addition of a gedcom export therefore was a welcome facility. However, Ancestry doesn't yet include FAMS or FAMC tags. FH imports the individuals and the families OK as separate entities, but it doesn...
