highlight direct relationships in diagram

If by relatives you mean all ancestors and all descendants of those ancestors can you not achieve what you want simply by editing the box type features for ancestor and descendant boxes in the boxes tab of Diagram Options? If you hit edit features you will see that there is a shadow option.

Ancestral origins diagram?

One way of doing this is to start with an ancestors diagram, select the standard text scheme 'Name, Dates' and then make a simple edit to this to add a birth line. The 'Getting the most...' book under Help covers text schemes well and there is also a help page entitled 'Create a simple text scheme' ...

Family Historian Courses in the South West?

Jane:

I would certainly be interested in the Advanced Day; would prefer a whole day course but if half-days were to prevail, would still be interested in that option.

Custom Query -- Source Title

Apologies. I mispasted my expression.

The expression I have been trying and failing to get to work is:
=TextIf(IsEmpty(%FACT.SOUR.ABBR%),%FACT.SOUR.TITL%,%FACT.SOUR.ABBR%)

Custom Query -- Source Title

Tatewise: I have been trying to adapt the =TextIf expression you posted, for use in a fact query. I have a column expression %FACT.SOUR[1]>TITL% which works fine but wanted to show preferentially the short title where the relavant source has one. I tried using: =TextIf(IsEmpty(%FACT.SOUR.TITL%),%FAC...

Managing sources backwards

bethsmum: I made the change from Generations to FH a few years ago and was confronted with the same issue. As Jane suggests, it is probably best to work with the source list in the Records window. Although at the time of my transfer over I did not have as many sources as you do, like you I decided t...

Descendant Outline Report

Problem now solved!

On stepping through the options tabs and reverting all tabs to installation settings, the problem went when I did this on the page layout tab. The para indent setting was too low.

Jane: These are the settings in the source tab for my Desc. Outline report. http://www.fhug.rjt.org.uk/images/uploads/sourcescreen.JPG Using the same settings for Anc Outline does not give the problem (nor do i get the problem with other reports). I tried unchecking assessment but it made no differe...

Descendant Outline Report

I am using v. 4.1.3 With most reports, sources appear in the following format: 1. Birth certificate of John Doe. 2. Anyvillage parish register. But with the Descendant Outline Report I am getting: 1. Birth certificate of John Doe. 2. Anyvillage parish register. So far as I can see I have the setting...

Query

Apologies to Mike if I misled him by the typo in my earlier post - Jane is of course correct and the line I intended to type was %INDI.FAMS.MARR.SOUR>_TYPE% Matches 'marriage certificate' As Peter says, however, further tweaks are necessary to allow for second marriages or for multiple sources. Query

The filter I posted was for an individual query. For a family query (which is probably better) use theexpression %FAM>MARR.SOUR>_TYPE% I've road-tested both this and the individual version and they work with my dataset. Depending how you have named your individual certificate sources (for example mi...

Mike:

A query I have used successfully for this situation uses the filter:

%INDI.FAMS>MARR.SOUR>_TYPE% Matches 'marriage certificate'

Hope this helps.

Remarriage Boxes

Thanks to all who have commented. The issue concerns ...

Remarriage Boxes

In descendant diagrams showing one box per marriage, what governs which marriage is the remarriage box and which is the main box? In the chart I am seeking to prepare, I have remarriages in gens 2, 4 and 5. In gens 2 and 5, it is the first marriage box that is pink using the default colour scheme bu...

When you say that the entry didn't appear on ancestry, do you mean that the page you found on 1901online is not present on ancestry at all or merely that the relevant entry was missing from the index? If the latter, then one way of accessing the image in the format ancestry uses would be to enter in...
