Trailer record error message

trailer error.JPG I regularly send small gedcom updates to my brother by email attachment. By small I mean no more that 25 or so individuals. This has worked perfectly well for several years. A day or so ago, I sent a batch of updates. On opening the exported gedcom files he got the message above. ...

Re: Illegitimacy - Assumed Marriage

In the property box for Roy you presumably have spouse tabs for both Kate and Hayley. In the Kate tab under the marriage details you will see a drop-down status box. If you change this to Unmarried or Never married you will cause slightly different changes to the Narrative Reports. Choose the one yo...

Re: Loss of gender choice menu in Property Box

Phil: My understanding is that when Family Historian is closed down, empty fields are cleared. This is why you are not seeing a sex entry in the right hand screen grab. You haven't entered the sex of Curtis so the sex field is empty. If you have not customised the MAIN proprty box screen, you should...

Re: Create a Burial Location Report

Colin: The hidden columns to which you refer are solely there to achieve the sort order set out in the query description, namely: The list is sorted by directness of relationship, with ancestors of the file root listed first, followed by siblings of ancestors then by cousins of varying degrees. The ...

Re: Create a Burial Location Report

Colin: I think the query Mike and Jane have referred to is one that I submitted (apologies if I am misremembering or if the version in the query store has subsequently been modified). One point to bear in mind is that it will only return people with burial entries if you have also entered a death fa...

Citations in GEDCOM

Paul: A follow-up to my earlier post. An easier way of seeing the practical difference of linking an object to a citation rather than to the source itself is to check the property box for the individual record concerned. If you link an object to the citation rather than to the source record itself, ...

Citations in GEDCOM

Paul: Nick is right. The clue is in the colour-coding. The 1901 census reference shows in blue. If it was linked to the source record itself it would show in red, as does the reference to the 1851 census lower down. When you right-click on the word 'Source' as Nick suggested you do, you should come ...

Spelling 'Marraige' In Reports

Looks as if you may have introduced a spelling error in editing the original settings. Under Options, check the spelling of the labels in the Family Member Main Items.

Copy tree

You need to export the part of file 1 that you need and then merge it into file 2. Suggest read the pdf manual (it is chapter 15 In version 5). Post again if you get stuck.

Pifkin: In what follows, I have used the term Flag (capitalised) to indicate a Record Flag in the FH context and flag (all lower case) to indicate a national flag such as the Union Jack or the Canadian Maple Leaf. If all you want is some sort of at-a-glance reminder on your diagram of which branches...

Saving while merging

Unless anyone knows differently, I don't think you can save partway through.

If you look in the Help under 'Features of the Merge/Compare Dialog' you will see at the end of that article a tip for dealing with large files.

Fact based query problem

I believe the item %FACT.AGE% is an age entered in the property box rather than a calculated age - so if you haven't entered the age for the fact concerned, the field will be null.

Query Reports

Colin:

1. Save the standard All Facts query as a custom query.
2. Under the Rows tab, add the following filter:

If not familiar with writing custom queries, the techniques are well covered in the manual.

Nova PDF

Thanks Jane and Mike for your comments. After my post this morning, I found that I was also getting unusual behaviour with another piece of software so suspect that the fault may have been with an unnoticed and unwanted update of something. Anyway, having gone back to a system restore point of a few...

Nova PDF

I recently updated to FH 5.0.9, which I am running under Windows 7, 64-bit. I have been trying this morning to print off some charts and reports in PDF. This has worked well under previous versions of v5 although I do not recall which upgrade version of v5 I would have been on when I last used the p...

Please ignore my question about undefined couples since I can now see that the 54 relates to couples in my file where one of the parties is an unknown individual.
