User Error
I have sent you a PM with screen shot step recording, showing how I got this error message.
I tried it with a different census year. I seems that the problem occurs when you change the occupation, then space, then tab to the next field.

Nick, I have finally managed to replicate this error (not deliberately, I hasten to add!). These are the steps I took: Entering 1871 Census information: Entered Head, his wife and first son - adding ages, occupations and where born to each. Entered second son changed occupation from 'Coachman' to ...

Marriages Discussion
I know there are people much more experienced in using FH than I am, but this is what I do with marriages. I don't know what the Associated Person facility is. I have created an Event/Attribute called 'Marriage Witness' and a sentence that reads 'He/she was a Marriage Witness on [date] in [place] at...

No Offspring marker V4
Graham, I had the same problem! (see above)
All you need to do is go into 'options'button next to the ticked 'no-offspring marker' and put a tick in 'also put marker below individuals with not spouses and no children'.

No Offspring marker V4
I have just discovered I needed to go into the options on the off-spring marker!! This is a very handy feature.
I keep learning more and more about FH - despite reading the manual!

No Offspring marker V4
I was only wondering today how I could show there were no children - now I know! Thanks. It only seems to work for couples though. I thought it might be useful to show against those people who I know didn't marry and didn't have children - it would save keep looking at people I have already investig...

Thanks for your reply Nick.
I think it was 1891 and the occupation field, but I cannot seem to reproduce the error at the moment. Will keep trying and let you know if I manage to replicate the error message.
I am on Windows 7 and using FH4, AS Method 1.

Hi Nick Thanks for Ancestral Sources, it's a fantastic program and in my opinion FH wouldn't be complete without it! I recently upset it recently though! When amending one of the fields I had selected, I think I backspaced too many times and it kept throwing up the following error box, which I kept ...

Inserting Multimedia
Thank you both for your replies. Glad I wasn't the only one to get the problem! I still can't get it to accept the format type, so I will have to stick to adding via the Insert Menu!

Could someone please tell me what I am doing wrong? I enter a new source and then right click to add link to new multimedia object. I can't seem to enter the format. I go the multimedia records window to try and enter it there, the type is and when I try to add jpeg it tells me 'Cannot change format...

Brother's Keeper v.6 to FH v.4
I can't speak for v4, but I bought FH v3 at the end of last year, after using BK since its DOS days. Although I upgraded to each version of BK, over the years I knew I had entered data in 'blank fields' which subsequently got used by the program, and never got round to sorting it out. I did a few tr...

Adding a Global Source
Thank you for your helpful suggestions Jane. These are people already in my database, which I added a long time ago from other researchers. I have a record of the source in the note field for each individual, but I am trying to be more consistent and set up a source for the informant and attach the ...

Adding a Global Source
Does anyone know of a way of adding a source to a lot of individuals in one go? I am hoping that there is a way I can click on a bunch of people in tree view and say 'add source - info obtained from such and such'.
Hope this makes sense!

Merging Databases: Keeping Original IDs
When I transferred to FH from Brothers Keeper, I decided to split the database into a 'main' database with all my proven linked families and several 'sub' databases of families I had not yet linked to mine. In doing this I kept all the original ID numbers. Now I want to bring in one of these 'sub' d...

Flags on Sources
Thanks for your help Adrian - I have to admit it is a bit more complicated than I thought it would be and it's all very well if you know which source you want to flag, it might be a bit more difficult with loads of records! Perhaps I am trying to run before I can walk, since I am still learning the ...

Flags on Sources
Thanks for your reply Jane. I have now created a custom query on the individual birth source, searching for the short title containing the letters BC ie INDI.BIRT[1].SOUR[1]>ABBR%contains'BC' This returns three individuals with a birth certificate. However, I know that there are six individuals with...

Flags on Sources
Hi I have attempted to follow the tutorial 'http://www.fhug.org.uk/flash/fhflags.html' which shows how to add custom flags. I'm trying to add a birth flag to people who I have a birth certificate for. I have created a custom query to select the sources containing 'birth certificate' but when I try a...

Getting Census entry to appear on printouts
Thank you both for your replies - another plus in favour of FH is this wonderful 'community' that seems to exist, sharing their expertise! Yes, Nick, I was using recording method 1, and your instructions worked a treat. Shame about the formatting though! I overcame this by entering the information w...

Getting Census entry to appear on printouts
I am trying out FH (amongst others) with a view to migrating from Brothers Keeper which I have used for many years. I have to say that the GedCom utility is swinging it in their favour at the moment as it is such a useful program! I have always like to add an entire census transcript to the head of ...
