Re: Setting Birth or Baptism as primary
Debbie, note that the OP is omitting Birth events altogether not just leaving out the Date. However, although some FH features use the Baptism Date as an estimated Birth Date many FH features do not, such as the Age calculation. Bear in mind that if you export your Project to another product then h...

Re: Setting Birth or Baptism as primary
If the baptism did not explicitly support birth details, I wouldn't create an estimated birth; hence before 1837, I have few if any birth facts and rely on FH's standard behviour of using baptism dates (shown as such) if birth is not present. Can't believe I have only just found this out, thank you...

Thanks for your replies. FH Support have also informed me that the MyHeritage connection can be turned off at install.

Re: FH V6 My Heritage Hints
I don't know Nick and I am not sure I would find out whether this was either. When I trialled FTM in the past I found it would connect to the internet every time I used it, even though I had stated in the preferences not to - luckily I only had a trial tree on there at the time.

Re: FH V6 My Heritage Hints
I too am troubled by this 'automatic internet data matching' - it was one of the reasons I didn't choose Family Tree Maker. I do not want to be given 'hints' nor do I want others to be getting my information without my permission. Mike says it can be disabled, but how will we know that it is not sec...

I have finally got round to upgrading from V4 (hope it's worth it!). Could anyone please tell me whether I should be copying any folders etc (apart from the GEDCOM) so that all my customisations such as diagrams, flags etc are not wiped out when I install V5.

Importing GEDCOM, Keeping Record IDs
LOL, of course! When I made the move to Family Historian, I thought I was being clever by separating out trees that didnt link in with my main one, thinking I would move them in when I found the connection. I have previously sent reports to a distant cousin, who always uses their ID numbers when co...

Importing GEDCOM, Keeping Record IDs
I have a GEDCOM, previously part of my main project, which I would now like to re-import to the main project again. If I merge it, it creates new ID numbers, but I would like to keep the same IDs as I know they are not duplicated in the project.
Can someone please tell me how to do it?

Saving Diagram with Transparent Background
My lines came out grey instead of black, so weren't as obvious. I haven't yet tried to change the colour!

Saving Diagram with Transparent Background
Thanks Jane for your prompt response as always, it's much appreciated! Your method worked quite well, but did leave ghosting round the letters, so choice of background colour had to be considered. However, I did discover that if I saved the diagram as a PDF in FH, then opened it in Photoshop it was ...

Saving Diagram with Transparent Background
Does anyone know if you can save a diagram with a transparent background, as opposed to a coloured one, so that it can be opened and edited in Photoshop? I have tried various 'save as' including .psd and Photoshop only sees it as one merged layer.

Source Location in Narrative Reports
Thank you Peter, that is just what I was after! It was the Descendants by Generation report I was selecting.
I am afraid I haven't got to grips with queries yet, but clearly I need to start learning as it allows more flexibility, doesn't it?
Thanks for your help.

Source Location in Narrative Reports
I am trying to produce a narrative report which shows the sources cited in the text on a page, described at the bottom of each page, rather than at the back of the report, as I think it will be easier to read. I have tried selecting the at end of record on same page option in the Location of Sour...

Change full date to FH date
Thank you so much Tatewise for taking the trouble to work this out for me.
I have to confess to getting a little bit of help from my son, but it did fix the problem, all except the ones with a th after the date that is!
Anyway, saved me loads of time. Thanks again.

Change full date to FH date
I have tried the search and replace, but unfortunately the GEDCOM had been saved before I received it, with the parentheses round the dates! If you are prepared to use Regular Expressions then I could explain how to use PSPad to make sure only date parentheses are removed. Thank you for this offer -...

I have still got the original GEDCOM, so the text editing way should work. Will give it a try tomorrow. Thank you so much for your help.

Change full date to FH date
I have just imported a GEDCOM from someone who has entered all dates in the full format ie 27 October 1893. FH has interpreted these as a date phrase and put them in quotation marks.
Is there a simple way to change them to the FH accepted way? (Hope so! [eek])

Thanks Tatewise, I will try that if it happens again. Hopefully I will learn an easy way to save all my custom settings and flags before the next time I have to reinstall FH!!

Property box does not open from diagrams
My techie son has just arrived home and sorted it! He recently exported the FH key from my desktop (which has two screens) and imported it on my laptop to bring the custom flags across. The solution was to clear the registry keys under HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareCalico PieFamily Historian2.0Preference...

Property box does not open from diagrams
Thanks for replying Jane, no I don't use a second screen on my laptop. I have set all three windows in the preferences to Docked and have managed to get the property box to appear on the right hand-side. As soon as I try and float it (using the button next to the cross) it disappears and will not re...

Property box does not open from diagrams
This problem has just happened to me on my notebook pc. The property box is not appearing when I click on a person in diagram mode. On my main PC it appears as normal. I have tried closing FH and opening again. I have also checked the Preferences under Tools and they are exactly the same on both com...
