Re: Copy & Paste from Onenote into Family Historian notes
A OneNote trick is it can use Optical Character Recognition ( OCR ) to convert an image of text into editable text. I suspect the Picture option to Copy text is performing that OCR conversion. If it is performing an OCR conversion, it would be wise to check the information that's pasted in to FH. O...

Re: pc to pc migration probs
A bit more information will help us: What version of Windows was the old PC running? (I'm guessing Win7 or even Win XP, the Project Window screen shot you posted refers to a "My Documents" folder, that is Win7/XP terminology). What version of Windows is the new PC running, I assume Win10? I assume t...

Re: Copy & Paste from Onenote into Family Historian notes
I've just tried copying and pasting from OneNote (used mouse to select text then right click and Copy): OneNote.JPG Now in FH Sample Project individual record, facts tab, select birth, use mouse to position cursor in Note: box, mouse right click and paste (also worked with Ctrl V): FHNote.JPG No pro...

Re: pc to pc migration probs
Sounds like Mocky has more than one copy of his "tree", plus a few odd files in the Desktop and Downloads folders. I wonder if he's using OneDrive to copy from old to new PC, or is using it for backups (or both). For the moment I'll leave it to you Lorna , two of us commenting could lead to confusion.

Mocky, Your screenshot did not display anything. Re: Sort Date & Gedcom to GedSite
Linda, Plugins aren't automatically updated, however there is a plugin in the store at http://www.family-historian.co.uk/pluginstore/plugin-entry?id=253 that you can download and install that, when run, will check all of your installed plugins against that store and advise if any need updating. Reme...

Re: Copy & Paste from Onenote into Family Historian notes
Works fine for me just using " mouse right-click copy " and then " mouse right-click paste ". Copied various sections from this thread to various note fields in FH with no problem, I didn't even need to resort to "mouse right-click paste as plain text". I prefer mouse actions, as I've already just u...

Rohese. Have a look at this post Autosave and saving (15367) and see if it helps, particularly the first reply by Tatewise.
It's a different problem but his solution might let you open the file to see what's in there, then get it working again with your project.

Re: Can I synchronise my static desktop to a mobile laptop ?
It might be a problem for the OP if he has to pay for extra storage, OneDrive gives only 5GB for free, then £1.99 a month for 50Gb. Depends how "high res" his photos and scans are, and how many of them. My main project folder is around 4.5Gb.

Re: Can I synchronise my static desktop to a mobile laptop ?
If you want to synchronise your Project between PC and laptop, then surely you need to include any media that are associated with the project (be it linked to a source, individual, family, place), and these will all normally be in the Media subfolder for that Project. There may also be relevant file...

Just a thought ( as I don't have any TMG files) but how might this sort date method interact with FH's automatic sort functions, or are they mutually exclusive?

Re: Source Types and templates in fh?
If you haven't already used it I would thoroughly support Mike and recommend Ancestral Sources . It can be used as it comes, and is also very customisable, but a major strength lies in the number of people in here that use it (it has a dedicated section in these forums), including the author of it, ...

Re: Windows update
When he said " zoom it like on a phone" I'm not sure what that meant. I've just opened this thread with the Edge browser (although I usually use Chrome), and click on the three dots . . . at the top right of the screen, then on the Zoom control set it to 125% or 150%. On my PC it then remembers this...

The latest Windows update did the same thing to my PC (but not my wife's). As well as the text sizes, all of the icons on the desktop have been reset to small (which actually I quite like). Apparently Microsoft have removed the option to change system font sizes, however this tool is being used quit...

Re: Census - Birth Place?
Thanks Lorna. There is a Lucy Brown baptised in Middleton-in-Teesdale in 1826 with parents John Brown and Lucy (I think the same family as the Thomas and William that you found). There is a Lucy Brown marrying in Darlington in 1841 so is not with the Brown family the time of the 1851 census (but I'm...

Thank you Mike.
Ancestry has that second one transcribed as "Stractoke Middleton, Durham" but google finds nothing remotely matching that. If anyone else has any ideas I'd be pleased to hear them.

Census - Birth Place?
Can anyone decipher the place of birth for the two highlighted entries in this 1851 census image (HO107; Piece: 2399; Folio: 650; Page: 47; GSU roll: 87077, in Westoe, South Shields, Durham). I know that the one in between is Alnwick, Northumberland. The 1841 census is not much help, and I cant find...

Since the middle of October Microsoft have been gradually rolling out the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update . It's a big update! It's being done gradually so only some people will have received it yet. The previous version was Windows 10, version 1703 , the Creators Update is Windows 10, version 1709 ...

Plugin to check external file links
Is there a Plugin that replicates the checks performed by the Work with External File Links tool in FH, and displays the results in a form which enable sorting to find the errors, or even allows export of the results to an Excel file to sort and filter? Just a report is fine, it doesn't need to allo...

For many places in FH, "what goes where" is much a matter of personal preference and being consistent. For myself I try to avoid duplicating information in different places, if you ever need to change that information you have to remember where you have put it.

Re: Census refs
The census ref (RG9; Piece: 879; Folio: 72; Page: 4........etc) is displayed in the source record under Publication Information. It doesn't get put into the Citation.
